I have kind of worked in this field before and I understand the problem of undercapacity. Thing is, all the complaining in the world will not cure the problem and changing to BT would make no difference at all. Fibre is not available in this area and I can't see anything changing until it is.

As for sky, they are going through a massive customer recruitment campaign, and have little time for existing customers.

No matter what anyone says, no one can compete with sky for TV and, as I get my broadband for 'free', there is no percentage in changing to another provider for that, whilst keeping sky tv.

I'm f***ed.  ;D

Ah the roll over and accept it approach. More suited to a third world country. In Britain complaining does get results just takes time and effort. The Telcos are not mind readers though they will probably have an idea that your area is underperforming.
More the 'Can't be arsed ' approach.
You'd be better off phoning Sky and telling them that you'll bin the whole package if they can't provide an acceptable broadband connection, and go through with it if required. Sky start paying BT as soon as they start investigating problems, so the first port of call is to fob off the customer and see if he rolls over and accepts it. The prospect of losing £70 a month might focus their mind. You might just get swapped to a better line - you never know.

You can always crawl back to Sky TV and get the broadband elsewhere if it doesn't work.

Can't do that as I'm not prepared to go through with it. Although I have problems with bb, I couldn't do without my TV.

Stemo - you don't need to go through with it. Just go through the menu til "if you are thinking of leaving" and they will at least listen to you but you have got to give impression that you are so fed up you are going to cancel because they are failing to deliver what they sold you. I had a bad broadband connection from Sky a few years ago and cancelled eveything including TV. They threatened me with defamation as I put stuff on websites but they dropped it all. At one time around here it wad only O2 that had their own equipment in our exchange and I switched to them for a time with big improvement in service.

Back with Sky now.

I'm in process of switching back to my staff broadband perk, had BT for a while at the new house. But speeds are not too shabby for a Friday evening...

That looks quite poor, how far is your cab?

I'm a fair way from mine and manage 60+ on both lines. BT one gives about 17M up, can't get a good stable run on the Zen one, as all you buggers are constantly using it ;D, but looks similarish.

STEMO, when it drops, is it an ADSL drop, or wifi drop?

In either case, do you have another router you can try? All ISP supplied freebie routers are shocking shite, but Sky's are particularly shite (along with those from the Whorehouse). So shite, they actually make BT's Homehubs look quite good (and they aint ;D).

As you are probably aware, you can improve reliability (and speed) by playing about with internal wiring.

If you can prove its not your wiring, then you have to shout at Sky. Its their job to shout at Openreach.  They have exactly the same interface into Openreach as (what was) BT Retail - ECO - which I'm sure all ISP employees here will know and love...  ...NOT!

Some ISPs are much better than others at being prepared to report stuff through to Openreach, and often matches the price...

I'd suggest, looking at that, 300m assuming good cable.  Unless you have a poor profile applied.  The Wholesale checker gives the profile after initial test.

On the upside, 300m should get near 300Mbps when Openreach roll out their bastardised G.Fast to you...
