Most of the older Picassos I've recovered have been due to knackered clutches.

No. Auto adjusted clutches tend to go from just starting to slip to no drive whatsoever in only a few miles. Manually adjusted ones can be nursed for weeks and several thousand miles.

Self adjusting cable clutches never end well... Just ask any one who's owned a RWD manual Ford from 1977-2000 ;D
