Dipped Headlight Needs Replacing - Help Please
« on: 11 September 2015, 15:00:17 »

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

I own a 2.2 Diesel Estate - Elite model - registration KS52 TVZ.

My dipped headlight bulb needs replacing, not normally an issue but I pulled into a Halfords earlier and they said unfortunately they can't replace as they are a Xenon bulb? However when trying to obtain quotes from garages they all seem puzzled that a car of that age would have a Xenon bulb. I didn't realise that this Halfords store actually has an autocentre round the corner and they basically said they have had instances where the staff sell the wrong bulb.

Does it seem right that this car would have a D2S Xenon bulb which is what the store assistant advised? How can I tell - can I tell by looking at the headlight?

If so can anyone recommend anywhere in Gloucestershire Worcestershire Warwickshire area to have this job fixed.

Finally can anyone recommend somewhere to buy the part cheaply, so that any garage also isn't charging a mark up on this as well as a hefty labour fee.

Thanks so much everyone.

Everything they have told you is correct,

Higher spec omega's do have HID (Xenon) Headlights with D2S bulbs.

You want either phillips or osram, avoid chinese ones from ebay which are of dubious quality and have been known to be a fire risk.

You can change them yourself with care.

I would suggest looking at http://www.hids4u.co.uk/d2s-xenon-hid-bulbs/

and I would consider changing both as they have a similar life expectancy and the colour will be different.

I would probably go for http://www.hids4u.co.uk/osram-d2s-xenon-hid-headlight-bulb.html at £37 each or 2 for £72

Omega's as far back as 1998, when the mini-facelift was launched had Zenon bulbs  :y

If you don't feel confident on DIY, I think JamesV6CDX a member here is often over your away and might be able to fit them  :)

Drop him a PM  :y

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5519

Personally I would not post an email address publicly, it's very easy for automation bots that crawl websites to find it and use it. (Increased spam etc) - In a PM it's fine, but not good thing to do on an open forum  :y :y

As said for obtaining the bulbs, both can be changed in an hour with care :y

Easiest way is to remove the headlight, three bolts, one clip and four plugs ;)

Man up ya big girl :D

That bottom bolt is a piece of piss to get at with a 6" long 1/4" extension once the headlight trim is off... ::)
