What Kevin says is true. I heard on a news outlet talking to 'technical bods', that some of the software is 'third party' and is undoubtably installed in other vehicles, although possibly not activated. :)

Much like the "muscle car"wars where BHP figures grew to be -shall we say-rather optimistic VW are not going to be the only ones doing this it's just that they're the first to get caught out ::)

Yup. I'm sure this is an industry-wide trend. Soe may be more guilty than others, but at the end of the day, like I say, there's only so much technology can do, and even the greatest most talented engineer is always against that force even stronger than he, talent, technology and governments... budget.

That's no excuse for lying and cheating though!  ::)  :P

This will be VAG's 'Tesco - horse meat' moment, but I reckon will turn out as expensive as BP's Deepwater Horizon moment.  ::)

Considering it's approximately £1 billion to design a high-volume new car ground up, and it can/may/does take 3-4 years of selling that new car to break even £12 billion is a hell of a chunk out of VAG's bank account. Ouch.

So VW have used the sophisticated, integrated electronic systems in their cars to get around an arbitrary and artificial test.

How is anyone surprised by this, and what difference does it make to anything?

Not just VAG brands either.  ;)  I think it's potentially damaging to Deutchland Plc as a whole.   :-\
