Water stain on ceiling
« on: 01 October 2015, 08:51:50 »

Do I need to treat it, or can I emulsion straight over it?

Treat it with stain block or use some aluminium paint or it will bleed through the new paint.

If you have any oil based paint that will act as a stain block (I use undercoat but gloss will do) then paint over with your emulsion (takes a couple of coats of emulsion to match)

Make sure you've resolved whats caused the stain.

As both previous replies.
Both options will work satisfactory :y
And as previously stated....ensure the cause is repaired, and the stain is dry prior to painting. :y

If you're going to use oil based gloss, give it a light sand before you apply the emulsion.

Of course...but you need a back to front brush for that.

Emery paper is cheaper. I once used a back to front brush by mistake and ended up with a very dull door.  :(

That's not a mistake, but negligence. How can you mistake a back to front brush...its bristles are inside out, totally different colour :y
