Home made Bread / Making Machine.
« on: 04 December 2015, 12:13:46 »

Maybe its that time in life for me, but I'm really getting bored of bread, especially the UK kind you find in our Supermarkets.

Apart from the Tiger Loafs that Lidl bake, I tend to buy most of my bread from local Asian / Turkish shops near me, as the bread including the Polish Varity is just some much more tastier.

Here's the thing, probably got too much time on my hands, but thinking about buying a bread maker, tend to get through a lot of the stuff, probably a least 8 quid a week buying bread, so are these home maker thing'ys any good, anyone use one, what's the results like, is it a cost saving thing or is just better bread. Or is the whole idea just one big fuff around and a waste of time?

Yup, I make bread.

Researched the machines quite a lot and the one to have, which gives good, conistent results is / was the Panasonic (if you want fruity / seedy bread get the one with the dispensor)

Cost saving, not really to be honest, depending what you buy now, and what flour you go for etc.  Cost isnt the point in my mind, taste and flavour is.

I have tried lots, but now stick to Wessex mill honey and seed flour, and also like their malt loaf flour.
Great to set at night and get up in the morning to fresh warm bread.

Also consider how much you will eat, I would say you must have eaten the loaf within 2-3 days else they dry out, fresher the better, which you dont get the same with packet bread.

It its literally 5 mins effort for a loaf.

Thanks Jim, do like the sound of fresh bread in the morning with my half a gallon of tea.  :y

IT'll look into then and bear in mind about Panasonic.  ;)

Thinking about it, whilst I do buy a few loafs, probably end up chucking half away, so supply on demand with a machine could be a bonus.

Had/have one, well my parents do, and it does come out every once in a while. Could be a 'gimmick' it doesn't get as much use as, say a teaspoon, so it's not exactly a 'vital' piece of tech, however, it does make beautiful bread, and well worth it, in my opinion.  You sometimes get a little unmixed flour in a clump, but overall 9/10.

That said, it's not the hardest thing in the world to make your own the old/proper way. But the kneading hassle is taken away with the bread machines, they are very simple. Well worth it, 9/10  :y

Bread is bad for you. Stop eating it. Spend the £8 a week on fags instead.  :P

Dont need a machine, just 10-15 minutes of graft and a warm oven.

I make soda bread with just 10 minutes work, no need to leave it to rise and baked in 40 mins.

Top tip for a crusty loaf is to have a pan on the bottom of the oven, turn the heat up to 250 for the last few minutes and throw a cup of water in the pan so it evaporates everywhere.  Close the door quickly and leave until done.  Works best on white breads.

was kinda working on the idea of getting one that works on electricory LD, rather than some Suffolk idea of using stones around a warm cow pat in the middle of the field.  ;)

Loads on ebay for a tenner or so.  :y  I'd imagine most of them are just under a year old, used once or twice and put in the cuboard.  ;)  ::)

£8 a week? That's three a day. Bit amateurish.
