Talking of bills, they were onabout Pensioners on the Wright Stuff this morning.  The convervation was about the ammount of pensioners that die over Winter.

With the cost of fuel going up the question was, would they pay for fuel or food.?

It then went on to mention hown many £?M/B's will the fuel companys make this year.

Is this something else the Government should be preventing.  (drop the VAT for OAP's at least)  :-/

It's true that some O.A.P.S have a hard time ,and it is only right that the government should help out where possible.
But it is also true there are many pensioners who are extremely well off. This is because they have no mortgage to worry about, excellent company pensions and also get winter fuel allowance, free T.v licence, free prescriptions, free eye tests ,free bus travel.
My in laws average 6 Foriegn a year. They eat out approx 4 times a week. They have just returned from a 21 day cruise and are off to Switzerland for 2 weeks at the end of this month.
Perhaps these government benefits should be means tested so they go only to the most needy.

Having got to a certain age shouldnt they be treated equally.

Even though there are wealthy pensioners out there , surely they have paid thier way through life.

Why not just treat them equally, dont the older generation deserve it?

All people of all ages deserve to be treated well as we are all human beings. So i think it is best to help people with regards to their need for help as opposed to giving them more money simply because they are old. That is just PC.
IN summary, let us try and help all young ,middle aged and old people who need help, but not give money to some affluent pensioners simply because they are over 65. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Agreed, there are the fortunate 'well-off' elderly; but (and with the greatest of respect) your inlaws hardly reflect the 'ordinary' pensioner`s late-life experience!
Means-testing for pension related benefit additions; with all the connotations of going 'cap-in-hand' to a faceless and judgmental State?
I`m sure many rightful claimants (as would my own parents) would 'go-without' rather than face.

Please bear in mind that today`s Pensioners are the generation whom have (in general) paid fully into the Welfare State through a lifetime of work and contributions since 1948.

I dated a young lady a few year ago, long story how we met, we were neighbers etc,  any way after something that happened and a little chat, I went in the house saying along the lines, "you know where I am if you need anything"

20 mins later, tap on the door.  You know you sadi etc etc.

an hour later etc etc

another hour later, etc etc.........  2 am I asked to to leave as I had work the next day.

home for 20 mins, knock knock.....sent her home at 5am

This happened every single day, week and a half later she fell asleep on the settee, was still there the next morning.

With in the month..... well you can work it out.

2 months later the cheecky bugga rented her house out to 2 lodgers.  Women eh!! ;D ;D

What i am trying to say is this Debs.
help people who need help.Age is irrelevant.
I would rather help a young person who needs help than a wealthy O.A.P. who does not.
By the same token i would rather help a needy >O.A.P. than a wealthy young person.
If it was just a few wealthy pensioners claiming these extra benefits i would care little, but they are larger in number than perhaps you think.
Remember also how many O.A.P. have enough money to winter in Spain ,and then come back home to pick up their winter fuel allowance. All human beings are worthy of help and not just the elderly.
