Just been talking to my friend who bought a 2009 LWB defender in 2012 low miles cost £26,995, nothing but problems from the start even basic things like the H.R.W. not working replaced screen twice & still causing problems , transmission issues poor fuel consumption  & a damn God awful ride  wishes he had never bought it powered by a Ford diesel , told him at the time if you are spending that amount of cash buy a Landcruiser .

Next door but one has just bought a '63 lwb Defender... one owner and 10k miles... front end panel gap inconsistency is astounding, even the bumper has been bolted on pissed ;D makes the whole thing look like is just hit a tree with the NSF corner... it hasn't as the chassis is true and the bumper unmarked, as are the panels... it has simply been thrown together by a drunk union worker at five minutes to knocking off on a friday lunchtine :o

Always had Japanese 4x4 s now a Korean Hyundai never had a problem with any of them, nothing would to persuade me to buy a Land Rover unreliable & outdated .
Little bro has a Santa Fe. Fair to say he doesn't have a good word to say about Hyundai ;D.  Mind you, having helped fix the poxy electrics on it, I don't have much good to say about it either ;D.

Its going OK now though :y

Yeah, its an old design with old production methods, almost handbuilt* compared to modern production methods.

But that's not really an issue for it, as its not a status symbol, its a utility vehicle. Can't see Guffer's ex colleagues complaining if their Cheftians aren't quite straight.

He understands that it left the factory like it, and why... Indeed it's one of its redeeming features...

What he doesn't get is that having stripped the front to replace part of the aircon gubbins, the dealer workshop made no effort to correct the factory chasms... ::)

Clearly build quality, or lack thereof isn't a warranty item ;D

I have had a Nissan Patrol, Toyota Landcruiser,Subaru Forester & have had a 2006 Hyundai Terracan for the last 4 years, apart from normal service items none of them ever let me down on, the best attention I receive is from my local Hyundai dealership EMG .

Feel free to add you're thoughts on the best road going 4x4 off roader. Obviously, if its not a Defender, you're wrong. But then you already knew that ;)

Obviously we are speaking from an off road capability PoV, rather than luxury, economy, emission, safety, "status" or cost.

I had a Deafener left with me on sale or return by a good car dealer friend. It was a 110 crew cab with canvas load. It looked pretty good, and at slow speeds was quite nice to drive! Motorway speeds weren't as much fun!

It however ended it's journey with me like this...

Iirc, injector seals were leaking into the sump, excess mixture of engine oil and diesel led the engine to 'runaway'. Thankfully it was a manual, so into 5th and drop the clutch and it stalled!
New engine was required!

However, after a new engine it was up at £14kish...they do prove very popular. Some may not like them, but a lot of people do.

Land Rover products in general for me, have proven very reliable.
