3.2 Battery
« on: 28 February 2016, 14:47:20 »

Hi to all.  Does anyone know the correct battery size (dimensions) and power for a 3.2 Elite?  Last replaced Dec 2008, at the time my Vauxhall dealer said that the original spec. battery was no longer available from GM and he went for the biggest size and amp (75?) that was available.

I think its shot now but want to buy the correct original spec battery - although not from GM.  Also what is a quality brand that will stand up to a 3.2?. Thanks.  Anthony

You may find Vauxhall as competitive for a genuine battery as a pattern supplier :y

Having in mind that my car which is 4 cylinder, starts more than fine using bosch 74ah I suppose your car wouldn't mind having the same amount of amperes. I think larger capacity battery wouldn't be able to fit in.

When I had my merc I when for the biggest battery that could fit in the boot 780cca

I would measure the tray then look for the biggest you can get. I recently bought a new batt for the v70 which I swapped over before getting rid of it as it a had a 4yr guarantee

2010 trade club book lists 93197903  85amp/hr (GM85-T7) for the 3.2 ,TC price then £69.13. I think they are all the same dimensions and fit on the tray. To my surprise when daughter-in-law's Rover Streetwise needed a new battery I managed to squeeze an Omega battery on to its battery tray, and it cranks the starter very well.

IIRC, the trade club 85AH is for the 2.5TD and doesn't fit in a 3.2. Listing is wrong.

Standard fit is a 65 AH.

The AH capacity is no real indicator of the current it can deliver. Mine lasted 10 years and got replaced by a Yuasa 70AH / 650CCA battery which is fine.

The largest GM battery that will fit and allows you to keep the battery jacket is the 75Ah one.  :y

It's just a bloody battery for a common car!

Go to your favourite/nearest/any supplier and tell them what you want it for.
Pick the one that's in the middle of the price range if you use the car frequently; spend a bit more if the car stands for longer periods.

Fit it in the carpark and get them to dispose of the old one.

Don't they buy back the old battery?
