Car ins. woes.

For many years now i've been insuring my vehicles with Adrian Flux. During that time they've been friendly, helpful, will mirror my no claims on any amount of vehicles & are able to insure just about anything. Just recently though i feel like their cash cow. As some of you may know i'm a part time market trader dealing in old toys, collectables & all things quirky. I run a full time indoor stall on sundays & sell outdoors & attend auctions during the week, hence i bought a 55 plate Transit & declared everything to them. I was a tad miffed at a quote of over £700 with breakdown cover but went ahead. I've since gone way over my declared mileage & had to pay another £370...this is only until april so i'm looking at £1000 renewal, guess i'll have to wear that one but i recently re insured the VW camper for just short of £300. I've just received a letter saying due to the information provided by them to Axa ins being unacceptable the policy will be void by the road traffic act on the 7th march, they can however offer me cover with another company for £444!!! I've also received another letter from them saying due to a "mid term adjustment" i need to pay another £70 on the VXR8 policy. As if that was'nt enough i've just bought a 1972 mk3 Cortina which they covered for £128. the policy & cert have arrived...£144! Talk about kicking a bloke when he's down...Roughly £600!
      Fortunately i'm having a clear out. I've already sold a Morris 1100, a Chevette & a little XR 125 Honda. I've also got a 1966 mk3 Zodiac which will be sold soon along with the camper & the VXR8. That will leave me with the Transit for work & every use & the Cortina for leisure time. I get the feeling i've been with them that long they feel they can charge me what they like & i'll just pay it. When i'm down to just those two i'm going to shop around.

I took Flux to Ombudsman some years ago - dodgy outfit. They settled before it got going.

Can you not get some kind of traders policy to cover all your insurance needs.

With more cars than drivers one of these suited me quite well: http://reis.co.uk/our-products/multi-vehicle-insurance/

The Ranger, BMW 645ci and RX8 were all covered fully comp for £1050 including:

Unlimited mileage
European roadside assistance
Fully comprehensive cover on any car not owned by me up to a value of £100,000
.. and a bunch of other stuff I've probably forgotten.

The ladies (it seems, entirely ladies!) at REIS are lovely to talk to, too.

I wouldn't touch Flux with a massive barge pole nevermind a ten foot barge pole...

I had a few woes not so long ago with LV.... their policy came through for renewal and they wanted nearly £750 to insure the Omega, I shopped around and got insurance down to just under £500, they couldn't/wouldn't go that low, the lowest they would go is £650... Id been with them for the past 6 years, and politely told them to not renew my policy... Unfortunately my Mini is insured with them, but that was paid in full, but I will be getting another quote for renewal when the time comes, I can almost guarantee it wont be with LV or Flux....

Nope, although it operates a lot like one. It's called "Family Marque" or Family Fleet now - you only get comprehensive on other cars at the highest level of cover: https://www.zenithmarque.com/personal-products/family-fleet/

I'll look into that then when they're due, had the Disco on a classic restricted policy with Lancaster, more than doubled their quote this time  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Well worth it IMHO :y I went through REIS as I say, rather than direct to Chaucer. It was refreshing to arrange insurance by answering a few simple questions and writing emails in plain English rather than filling out forms..

I have 3 cars on a multicar policy with the option of anotehr http://www.tradex.com/home-fleet-insurance

It was a little over £900 last year .... only draw back is that I think I've tied myself to them as getting the individual NCD proved difficult last time I asked

 Adrian Flux....Oops! I've just insured my VXR8 with them through the previous owners recommendation,I was completely honest with them and declared the body wrap and aftermarket supercharger, suspension mods,re-map etc  and they came back with a quote for around £350 with a 5000 miles per year limit. Quote duly accepted and happily paid,but then an email came in with a revised quote for £490, I asked why? and was told it was due to the call handler not understanding the mods that were initially declared,I have since made a complaint and told them that if they are what they claim to be then they should have staff that understand what a customer is saying and if not kick it up to a senior staff member who does. Specialist insurer? bullshitters more like it ::)

My only experience of Adrian Flux was years & years ago .... 25+  ??? ??? .... and I had cover note after cover note before I eventually received my certificate

All insurance quotes will be hiked this year, I've just had a renewal quote for £150 which was £120 last year (not car ins, obviously).
Remember the flooding we had at the arse end of last year? You will be paying for that.
