There's not much from Unilever that my household uses. Tesco will lose customers who do want those brands and those that aren't precious about Unilever will find alternatives.

Now, if all of the leading Supermarkets get pissy with Unilever and boycott their products, one of two things will happen, they'll back down/compromise, or cut down/withdraw their products in the UK.

Not the first time Tesco have treated a supplier like this, I'm sure. Just a big enough supplier to make the headlines this time.

Other supermarkets are available.

Other soap manufacturers are available.

Kinda hard to know who's taking the ssip in this instance, admittedly, but good luck to both of them.

Tesco PR campaign, where they are trying to recover market share from their 2008 excessive price rises and people shopping elsewhere ever since? Always cycle past our local massive Tesco, on my way to Aldi and Lidl which are not much further and much, much cheaper, especially Aldi.

Yep.....Far superior produce with a saving of about 25%.

There's a lot of two-way BS here.

Am I going to NOT go to Tesco just because they don't have Marmite or whatever ? Nope.

I import wine from France, properly, not load up the car in Calais ! A year ago I was buying wine at €1.35 = £1, now at commercial rates it would probably be around €1.09 or thereabouts. Without a doubt my prices will go up on my next imports.

But, the stuff in question here supposedly is made in the UK, but then maybe not. Remember that HP sauce is now made in Holland  :o

Everyone wants to make money, Unilever, Tesco, me, everyone. Tesco are well known for stongarming and even bullying suppliers, Unilever are just huge. I'm not taking sides here, it's just not that clear or even that important to Joe public. I shop everywhere, spread it around, Lidl, Aldi, Tesco and even Morrisons, and of course I try to buy in my local shops as much as possible. Where I live local shops struggle, it would be a bit of a disaster for the town if Tesco or M&S were to close down, not so much if Lidl or Aldi did as they are a bit out of town and not big employers.

So, an interesting story in progress. let's see what happens

Yes, quite possibly true.  ::)

We already pay more for our energy/fuel when the price of oil goes up, yet reductions are very slow to materialise when it drops again...

Ok, living without Hellmans mayo will be tough, but it is doable. The big question though, is how many non branded products to Unilever/Proctor & Gamble etc produce on the side :-\

Does being part of Walmart, and therefore part of a much larger retail group mean that Asda won't be charged extra? And what effect does this have on smaller retailers?

Well, id like to report....

I popped into Waitrose on the way home this afternoon and I can confirm...

They were expensive before Brexit and still expensive now   ;D

I spent about £11 on my dinner for tonight, but on the bright side they only charged me 5p for a carrier bag, same as other supermarkets  :y

PS I don't shop in Waitrose every day/week/month .... its probably a yearly thing!

Unilever / Tesco dispute is now reportedly resolved. Looks like someone backed down pretty quickly. I suspect it was Unilever.

Interesting this.   :)

People are kinda aware of the relationship between the price of oil and the price of fuel at the pumps and after this episode will be aware of how sterling's fortunes affect the price of everyday goods.   ;)

As Varche pointed out earlier, when sterling recovers or gets strong again, people will be expecting cheaper prices at the checkout.  I'm sure that Unilever will be cutting the price of Marmite when a pound is worth €1.45 again.  ::)

I see that Unilever have tried to raise prices in Ireland, despite the euro rising in value.

Shysters.

Presumably nothing to do with Irish freight crossing the UK then ::)

Unilever / Tesco dispute is now reportedly resolved. Looks like someone backed down pretty quickly. I suspect it was Unilever.

From Unilever

"Unilever is pleased to confirm that the supply situation with Tesco in the UK and Ireland has now been successfully resolved," Unilever said.

"We have been working together closely to reach this resolution and ensure our much-loved brands are once again fully available. For all those that missed us, thanks for all the love."

From Tesco

"We always put our customers first and we're pleased this situation has been resolved to our satisfaction."

So . . . . . Unilever backed down. When the UKs biggest supermarket tells you to piss off, what do you do ?

"Much loved brands"  "Thanks for all the love" . . . . . what bull   ::)

when a pound is worth €1.45 again.  ::)

Depending on who you listen to, some would say that will never, ever happen again..
