Ours has been on for weeks, 24 hours a day. The boiler has hardly broken sweat.

Ours is never off, Victorian house, No dpc, so keeping warmth and airflow through the building keeps it dry  ;D

Don't have one, we still have the Bakelite one with the whizzy roundy wheel  :D. Our Gas and Leccy combined is £160 pcm. No idea if that's good bad or indifferent for a detached house.

Depends, is it the size of Windsor Castle?  :o

My old 1970 built detached was ~£100pcm combined, the new larger 1930s built detached looks likely to be ~£120pcm and I think my electric is likely to be above average given we pound the dishwasher, tumble drier and have a bank of computers running 24x7..

Ooo, Possibly not awful then. The place is about 2900 sq ft and has its original (single glazed and draughty) sashes. I have insulated where possible though. When we bought it, it was £200/month, and still bogging freezing!

Solid fuel Raeburn? Bet that keeps you busy! We were going to install at least one log-burner, but seeing as we're selling up shortly, seems like a poor investment!

Actually yes. Very much so. And although posh people insist that they simply couldn't possibly live without an Aga dwaaarling, and it simply does everything (Posh people always have Agas not Raeburns), they are actaully quite expensive to run and take effort. But as it heats the water and a large part of the house it works for us. When we first moved in the gas+electric bill was terrifying   :(  We prefer to buy solid fuel when and as we need it, it avoids that megabill every 3 months.
