15.6" chromebook.
« on: 02 November 2016, 19:11:40 »

Don't need any bells and whistles.

Are these fit for purpose or just cheap crap?

From the limited reviews I've read most say they are 'quick' and easy to use.

If it's for you: adequate.

If it's for Mrs Opti: nowhere near heavy enough.

Depends what you want to do with it.

In a nut shell a Chrome Book is an Android App Tablet, so its all down to the Apps.

If you to do any Processing or Windows use, you be better of with a Windows Tablet.

Be aware you cant plug printers / scanners in, so you will need a 'google cloud print' enabled printer if you want to print from it.

Yep. It's a glorified tablet with no usable storage, everything will be stored in heaven.

Thanks, chaps. :y

I can buy a 15.6" Acer for £239 less £20 voucher .......so £219.

It can't be long before somebody comes along to inform me that Acer are a pile of unreliable crap. :)

So a wifi  printer/scanner wouldn't work with it ?  :-\

Best avoided, as Chromebooks really are, well, shite.  If you *MUST* have one, get a reputable brand, which rules out Acer.

A Windows i3 based laptop should easily come in at around £300 for a branded model, and just for EMD, all versions of Windows desktop have come with free, lifetime AV for years.

Only if it supports Google Print. In the same way a MacBook needs a printer that supports AirPrint.
