« on: 07 December 2016, 20:37:04 »

dear Omega friends. just recently when i start my car the alarm sounds, its not very loud and it only goes on for a few seconds, it doesnt happen everytime. Has anyone heard of this? I think probably some kind of auto electric fault and if thats the case im just going to leave it but if anyone has any ideas id be most appreciated. Les

It could be the power-sounder. It has a rechargeable battery which fails after about 10 years and can cause a short circuit which then leads to a fire.

Sounds like a failing power sounder to me.

Have a read of these guides from the maintenance section.

From memory the power sounder is about £35 from a Vauxhall dealer.

To disconnect & remove it costs nothing. If it catches fire tonight then it costs you your car.

Most people on here remove it and throw it as far as they can. ;D

many thanks to all, i have completely removed it, very easy job except getting the wiper arm off the spline. I had to borrow a wiper arm pulley off my garage, i gave him a tenner for its use but that is excellent. So ive checked the car works and the horn and the wipers etc and it all seems fine. is it ok to just get rid of it? i take it this is where the sound comes from in the event of the thief alarm going off but as i think no one is about to nick my omega then i think its ok. many thanks.
