What's really getting my goat these days is the attitude propagated by the lefty liberals that anyone who voted for BREXIT is some sort of ignorant extreme right wing nazi nutter!  ::)  >:(
Yes...but....no one takes any notice of them...except the BBC..so don't worry about it. They are idealistic idiots, did you see the fool Tatchell usurping Corbyn at a speech he was giving yesterday? They can't even agree among themselves.

The trouble is that many of these 'liberal' types believe the shite spewed out by the lefty news organisations. A good example of this was when a mate of mine tried to tell me that Russia's annexation of Crimea was entirely justified as historically Crimea was part of Russia and that the people of Crimea voted in a referendum to join Russia.   ::)

My comeback was in that case it would be totally justified for Britain to annexe the Republic of Ireland, and hold a referendum at gunpoint after the event.  Of course he had no answer.  ;)

Funnily enough I haven't heard from that particular friend since the referendum....  ::)  :(

I, personally, don't blame Russia for that move. WTF do we want Ukraine in NATO for, except to piss Russia off. The west must take it's share of the blame for bear-baiting. As if Russia was ever gonna let her Black Sea fleet base fall into the hands of NATO.
Same with Turkey, what useful purpose would it serve, them being part of the  EU?
It's a game of 'we don't want it, but you're not having it'.

That's the cause of Russia's annexation of Crimea, and you are right that the EU, Nato and the West in general should have left well alone or in my opinion encouraged Ukraine to look both ways.

However, that doesn't excuse a country from invading another countries sovereign territory.  Where will we be if we start appeasing such behaviour?  ::)  Oh hang on haven't we been here before.... Within living memory as well!  ;)

As an edit and following your line of thinking, wouldn't BREXIT justify a military takeover of the UK by the EU?  I often think that I'm alone in thinking that an EU army or military, answerable to the unaccountable and undemocratic EU commission is a pretty unpalatable prospect to be honest.  :-\

You're being silly. The EU haven't got a naval base on our territory. Anyway, by the time they'd have all the meetings required to get all 27 member states to agree to it, and then decided who was gonna contribute what, we'd have all died of old age anyway.

It boils down to this: Russia will do whatever it likes because, as a military force, NATO is no more than a bunch of rag-tag nations (in Europe anyway) that could never actually fight as one. If we tried it without the US, Russia would beat us up.
American doesn't want to know, they seem to have lost the stomach for it, and is busy keeping an eye on China.

To your point about us appeasing such behaviour. Well...what are we gonna do about it? Moan? Demonstrate? Cry? Russia couldn't give a toss about how we feel.

You might think I'm being silly but this is exactly what they thought in 1938.  ::)

Although Trump is Putin's new 'Bestie' he is right about NATO, in that many countries don't pay their fair share.  The thing is, at the end of the day the US will always fight their battles on European soil, because if Europe falls the next battle will be on home turf and they will do anything to prevent that.  ;)

As to the EU, if it survives it will definitely become more of a nation state and individual countries will have less say and control over it's affairs. It was always the plan and we have been lied to about this for 40 years!  >:(

It seems the only place to find the truth these days is on the web.

Don't recall seeing this on BBC/ITV/SKY.

CIA have now confirmed that Russia has interfered in US POTUS election, favouring Trump. It looks increasingly like Trump is 'owned by Putin' either through 'Kompromat' or through the financing of Trump's businesses (hence maybe why Trump not publishing tax returns as promised).

Now we all know that Trump is thin skinned, unstable and easily angered. What happens if Putin's value on this is much higher than Trump thinks he owes? :o :o :o As POTUS Trump has quite wide latitude to let loose nukes if he thinks US is under 'attack'. :o :o :o In 2017 what can possibly go wrong? :o :o :o

Before the Russian invasion of Crimea, followed by the further invasion of Donbas, Ukraine's population's interest in joining NATO was always less than 20%, anything other you have read is Russian propaganda. However, what was much higher was Ukraine's interest in joining the EU, which was around 40-50%. The country's main motivation for joining the EU was to escape from their post-Soviet economy, totally corrupt system and poverty.

Russia used and uses Russian-Ukrainian oligarchs and mafia ties to try and keep the Ukrainians in their place. Didn't work under Stalin hence over 1000 uprisings against Soviet rule, especially in 1930-32 against collectivization which culminated in Stalin's deliberate starvation and genocide of 5-8million Ukrainians in the 1932-33 Holodomor and it won't work under Putin now. The Dnieper river area in Ukraine is where the famous Cossacks originated from and was always Russia's preferred recruitment area when they wanted to raise an army. Ukrainians had seen the other post-Soviet countries take this route, reform under the EU rules and guidance and transform themselves into much richer, much less corrupt countries and societies. Ukraine wants the same, but Russia wants to keep the immediate countries on their border as poor corrupt post-Soviet societies. Moldova was the first problem country, hence the Russian support and the formation of the 'Russian controlled' breakaway area of Transnistria. Georgia was next, hence the 2008 invasion and then Ukraine in 2014. Next will probably be either Kazakhstan or Belarus. :(

Most trade between Ukraine and Russia has now stopped and Ukraine imports all its gas through Western countries. Gazprom recently offered Ukraine the cheap price of $185MMBtu and Ukraine said no. Ukraine-EU exports grew by 30% in 2015, the first year of the EU agreement. Since 2014 Maiden, Russian invasion and economic attacks, Ukraine's economy contracted sharply, but it has now started growing again. :y

These days, in Ukraine, NATO memberships polls at 50-80% of the population and the EU at up to 95%. Russia carries out these invasions as they know a country having any disputed territory or war automatically excludes NATO membership. Last week Ukraine and Georgia finally managed to get visa free travel, in the Schlangen area of the EU, for visiting up to 90 days in 6 months, which will further boost trade.

Rubbished already...

Much less easily angered than the mad witch... ;)

As POTUS Trump has quite wide latitude to let loose nukes if he thinks US is under 'attack'.

Well, I can't see him being under attack from Vlad.  ;)
