Linux sucks
« on: 29 July 2008, 19:19:24 »

after the little crash earlier, just given the forum 50% more memory.  Linux, being gay, has swallowed all that up (mainly for caching).

No probs for using for caching, as long as it releases when needed. But it doesn't, useless gay heap of shit.  Its paging now.  No wonder nobody is bothering with it any more.

Ahhhh, a little crash, I guess thats explains why when I hit refresh I got page cannot be displayed....I guess the url wasnt vaild anymore after the reboot.

Still that'll teach me never to close down IE and just close the lid on my laptop and upon opening the lid just hitting the refresh button on IE   ::) ;D ;D

Still I got to use up 3 of my 400 monthly allowance in texting you  ;D

must be the distro your using...

never had any issues with Gentoo, been using it now for near 4 years without a problem.  My server has 'never' caused me any grief at all, and has only ever been rebooted once in the past year (20 days ago to be precise) as I was compiling in a new kernel.

Its running as a gateway to my internal LAN (with upnp), closed proxy, web, mail and ftp servers.  But everything was compiled from source and configured independently, much better than relying on 'pre-built' binaries and configs...

Same with my laptop, running sweet as!

Altho I'm also not running it in a virtual environment...

 ;D some people will :)

Pointless running Yellowdog on your PS3, or any other Linux distro tbh...

You can't use the graphics chip properly (Sony only allow you to use Framebuffer mode) so its slow as hell in the gui.

You can't just load up a PS3 game while in linux, as it runs seperate from the game OS.

And its also running in a virtual environment itself... so just makes it run like a dog from the word go.

I've seen a P3 1ghz with 256mb of ram outperform the PS3 running Linux ;D

Tried most of the 'professional' distros, though its irrelevent as its the way the kernel does resource mgmt.

We've had similar issues at work, hence we are rapidly moving back to proper Unix such as Solaris and HPUX, and less Linux based servers.

PaulW - I'm guessing yours isn't 'busy' - what sort of spec, what are queue levels (from uptime, top, etc), and amount of memory and swap used?
