Sky say the ratings are comparatively poor for Discovery, etc, but, if you don't subscribe to the sport or movies, which are extra money anyway (not remotely interested in either) what else is there that's likely to be attracting the ratings?

The Discovery channels are pretty much all I watch. The rest is a load of bilge reality TV, available elsewhere for free, or a lot less than £32 a month, anyway, and often without the advertising! :o

Droped Sky about 2 months ago, and don't miss it one bit, far too expencive for what we got. 90% of programs were of no interest to me but to get the few that I did watch, I had to have the full package. Been with them for over 20 years and yet they still charged me £63 a month, total rip off in my opinion.

But you still chose to pay it for 20 years?  :-\
Probably more a question of it starting out at £20-30 per month, which 20 years ago wouldn't have been unreasonable, leaving it running and suddenly realising that it's £120+ and thinking opps me, that's a months food shopping  :-\

Incidentally, Quest is owned by Discovery ;)

Can see Discovery becoming a web based broadcaster... either via Netflix or separately. Either way, £10 a month wouldn't be unreasonable imho...

That said I tend to only watch six channels regularly,  Quest, Dave, Film 4, More 4, Sony Movies and 5USA/Spike, and Netflix online, ironically using a Sky connection ::)

We don't have multiroom as the extra cost doesn't justify the time I would watch it for, although downloaded box sets would save having to buy them... which would mean entering the digital age... why buy imaginary things when you can own a physical copy :-X

Internet streamed broadcasting will soon become the only viable method for commercial broadcasters.  Astra and Crown are cripplingly expensive...

Hence even Sky recently announcing a move to streaming only in 2018.

Something I recall saying about was the future some 10 years ago on here.

There are still a lot of people with internet connections that won't hack it, mind..

We also need to break the dependency on having to take whatever shitty internet connection is offered by your chosen purveyor of TV too.

Which will be irrelevant given that the few wont be able to pay the Astra Sat costs.....

Could be heading for a baby boom, then, or we'll get much better at playing scrabble. ;)

+1, Thats ok for me too. There is more than enough crap on Freeview too. Anyway, i begrudge paying GiffGaf £5 a month for my crappy old phone so Sky would be a definite nono.

Was'nt aware about this till just now, but read my emails before coming on OOF with an email from sky saying

"In order for us to continue to deliver a great experience for all our TV customers, we need to review our pricing from time to time. We’ve listed your price change below, and a reminder of how you can make the most of your Sky subscription.

What's Changing... TV

The price of your Variety bundle will increase on 1 March 2017 by £0.75 extra a month. This change will show in your March bill."

So not only am I loosing the main channel I actually watch but they are putting prices up as well.   So whats the point doing a fixed price contract for 12 months if it does'nt really mean "Fixed price"

Methinks I will be voting with my feet as well (even though the Discovery channel isnt part of the Variety package listed above) >:(

You can't cancel right now though, Skrunts, because as Rupert Tunnie will tell you, it's in the contract.

So I'm aware of the exact viewing percentage of Discovery, not sure I can say publicly, but it's shocking how low it is. It's really, really, really low! To the point of I can see exactly why we won't bid more.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but on NOW TV we lost Disney live channels some time ago. Huge "noise" at the time, reports in media of channels going, customers posting on forums saying they would leave. The result? Zip. Nothing. Had no impact! Which is a surprise.

It may have a minor effect, but I don't see any huge impact personally. (if the viewing figures are accurate)

??? How long before football bankrupts Sky ? they just can't keep paying more for it ,  how many viewers does Hull v Burnley bring in ? can't be enough to justify the massive outlay on Sky's part
