The guesswork, Wheel and tyre 28 inches in diameter.

This combination gives me 48.8 MPH for each 1000 RPM.

Sounds about right, I tested it using the M140i's vital statistics and it came out to about 1700rpm at 75mph. Which is what I remember from the speedo.

Cars these days come with gearing that wouldn't be out of place on the Starship Enterprise. Back in the day 20 MPH/1000 RPM was considered to be almost an overdrive.

Can you see where you went wrong there?

I say:-         
Let “illion” stand for “000,000” i.e. Mono-illion, shortened to Million.
Then billion = Bi-illion, or Billion = 2 x “000.000” = Billion
Hence Trillion = Tri-illion, or Trillion = 3 x “000,000” = Trillion

That's exactly how it used to work until we, sensibly, aligned with the yanks. I was taught at school the same as you, that one billion was 1,000,000,000,000. The numbers changed, that terms didn't.
