Ok, Tesco,Halfords,boots,eurocarparts,cpa,homebase, asda etc etc all claim to sell it, but on closer scrutiny it turns out that what they actually sell is de-ionized water!

Has anyone bought any recently and if so where from as I am running out of options.

Both same, £1.50 in Tesco for 2.5L

Called battery top up in Halfords. £3.00 I think.

Or 20L from motor factors for about £12.00

Since Dad retired and lost the use of the school still, I've never had a problem using tap water. The water here is really hard, and quickly furs up kettles.

I have never used anything but tap water for rads and batteries as well,  but then how little you know, how little I know!

You are right - de-ionised water is not the same as distilled water. I wouldn't drink it or use it to make medicines but it is perfectly good for topping up batteries and cooling systems.

That said - I have never bothered to use anything but tap water in a cooling system.

Yes, this is what I meant... ie not tap water, especially round here... Our water is so hard, it makes Moss Side look pleasant

I always have. Never had any problems.
Haven't seen a battery that you could top up for years.

Using tap water was a problem back in the days of unsealed car batteries, where you had to top up regularly, especially if you had a poorly regulated dynamo which over-charged. Tap water with a high calcium content would then cause the plates of the battery to gain a limescale coating, reducing capacity and sfficiency.
Nowadays, topping up is almost unnecessary and calcification, IF it occurs, will take longer than the useable life of the battery to take place!
Pay for deionised or demineralised water if you must, but tap water is fine, really.....

I use de ionized water to clean my R/C motors submerged

I run them for about 30 mins and all the carbon, dust and grit turn the water black

If I were to use tapwater it would short them out and blow the batteries
