possible aircon problem volvo??
« on: 02 June 2018, 12:45:29 »

Got a new car recently (couldn't find a decent omega so bought a smaller volvo v40)
Car is in nice condition.
Engine is 1.9d 85kw.
But what bugs me is this.
Car has aircon and it cools fine but works strange (at least I think it works strange).
When you put the aircon on it doesn't drop the revs as every other car I've driven but it does so every 20 to 30 seconds
You can hear the revs drop as like the compressor engages and disengages every now and then.
Maybe it is designed to be like this I have no idea but if it is not what could be the problem here.
I haven't driven it to any garage.
My mechanic who serviced the last car says he won't work on volvo so have to find someone who knows what he is doing.
Anyone with any knowledge on this, advice would be appreciated.

That's the  compressor clutch cutting in and out,  it's working correctly.

As BG says that’s how they work but it may need a re-gas if it’s cycling too often

It won't help, but I did tell you to buy the Vectra... ::)

Private sale or dealer? Hopefully the latter as it will give you some comeback :-\

Well talked to the mechanic today who picked up the car.
Not good news.
It turns out the belt was ok and was indeed changed but the piston managed to rupture the engine block
and the engine is completely gone.
I asked the mechanic what can be the possible reason.
He said it can happen sometimes on heavy load usually.
Car was working around 2000 rpm and it wasn't even that loud when it happened. Car only did 137k miles.
Apparently it is renault engine and now I have to find a new one.
Just my luck

Will contact the dealer responsible for selling the car tomorrow and hear what he has to say.
I would like for someone to clarify what can be the possible reason for engine disintegraton.

it's odd to happen at 2k revs

or has the coolant all gone (H.G fail hydrolock)

Have done that to a banana engined Transhit... That had no oil in it and you could feel the crank knock through the seat :D

We knew it was low, but when first started, it was fine, and we only drove it in order to get to the site that some plum had moved the oil to... Only a mile away :-X
