knocking from gearbox. renualt espace

mate has a j plate (92) espace that gives a thump that is progressive with speed. dip the clutch & it goes away. any idea`s, is there a common fault to look for. :-/

Sounds very much like drive shaft when it's under load.

Dual mass flywheel mate, if its knocking it gone out of balance hence 'dangle berries'ed!! may not be it tho but usually if you dip the clutch and the noise disappears it is!!!

surely if it was the flywheel then you would have the knocking all the time. or is it summat that only appears under load. :-/

depends on how bad it is, take it you have checked obvious things like driveshafts etc before posting?

No DMF on an espace of that ilk.

had new mounts & support brackets. new tre`s, ball joints.
