I'm in a very similar position to you James. My mother is now receiving end of life care at home with the help of a live in care (a lovely lady from Zimbabwe via Southend). This will most certainly be her last Christmas. The only saving grace for me is that she is only 20 miles away so visiting isn't much of a problem. I'm not sure if i'm breaking any of the new rules with this or not though.
Arguably, if the only other time you leave the house is for essentials and the other person you speak to is the checkout person, visiting is completely reasonable. Under the circumstances.
Yes DG, that was my justification, i am no longer seeing my daughter or the grandkids at the moment by mutual agreement. Just do basic shopping now and bike rides. SWMBO is shielding as normal.

Just been and collected my lad from uni, dropping his teary eyed girlfriend off at the bus station on the way to Doncaster airport. Poor girl won't get home (Romania) till 3am, but at least she will be with her family.

She's on the plane, thank goodness. Poor girl was worried she might be stuck here for the duration. Let's hope her parents don't lock her in the wood shed for 14 days  ;D

One of the funniest things I've seen for a while was the BBC news crew interviewing people about Boris 'cancelling Christmas' yesterday.

One bloke said to them " What a touch!  I was supposed to be going to the mother-in-laws... "  ;D

A neighbour told me this morning that one of her sons was picking her up about one o'clock to take her to London to another sons for Christmas. When I queried if this was still allowed under the new rules she merrily replied yes as they were part of her support "bubble"! She's 85 yrs old and still gets out and about without any kind of walking aids. She's either braver or more foolish than I am as there's no way I'd be going to London just now.
