Only problem is, China will soon be in there to fill the vacuum.  :(

China can supply its own opium...

Or we could just buy whatever the Afghan government is prepared to sell instead of invading again.
The only thing left is labour and opium...  and lithium!  China has already bagsied that though.  ;)

Fixed that for you Al!  :)

They might try. :-\
NickW's post yesterday sums it up nicely. No one seems to be able to tame the tribal ways of the Afghan people.

They wont do it by force. It will be pumping in unlimited amounts of money, but mining the Lithium in return,  and before they know it the Chinese pretty much own them.
Just the same as they are doing across Africa at the moment.
We are buying their tat, and giving them the money to buy the world.

Private schools and most Universities in the UK now float on a sea of Chinese money.
Its criminal that the Govt. have allowed it to happen.

Could be worse, at least all our infrastructure and utilities are owned by the British public.

Or they were, until the Conservatives gave them away for pennies in the pound. That led to other European publicly owned utilities buying them  to underwrite their own  responsibilities. Trivial things like nuclear power, or the Dartford crossing, among others. That's probably the biggest political oppsup of my lifetime, that makes anything that Blair did look like a hold my beer and watch this moment at an after work party held in the garden at No10. Sorry, not party. Meeting.

Letting Russians buy half of London wasn’t too clever either. Same thing has happened in Mediterranean resorts. Still at least sanctions can be directed at the czars billions of stolen roubles.

Our favourite restaurant in Spain is owned by Russians, it is probably the most lavishly decorated building I have ever eaten in  some of the customers look like typical mafia types , but the food is excellent & the prices are very reasonable the waitresses are absolute stunners

In the capitalist system the money invested does not recognise nationalities, only recognising were the greatest return on investment is.

Chinese, Russian, American, French or British, or any other money in the possession of an individual or organisation is just directed to where the biggest return on capital lies.  It has been like that for centuries, with obviously the targets for that investment recognising opportunity coupled to national status and the reverse; the biggest, richest nations have the investors with the biggest investment clout.

The investment seems to operate often, but not always, without recognising the politics of nations, as it is the profit potential that rules everything!

...............................and it should be not over looked that the financial capitals of the World, in the order of importance,  still reflects the strength of the West's Capitalist systems:

Rank
1      New York City
2      London
3      Hong Kong
4      Singapore

This also shows were the power and control still lies over 'foreign' money, as those countries who upset the West find out! :D ;)

And the cost of letting these undesirables “ invest” via golden visas is immense

Malta will catch a cold. Here on the Costa del Sol we saw the mafia take over the drugs trade ( that channels much of the drugs Europe use coming in via South America and Africa) . The Italians drove the mafia out. Now the Russians have taken over from the mafia.

No probs for the mafia as they cabn go back to the feeding frenzy of the disbursement of One Seventy Five Billion euros donated by the EU.

Oh yes, that is far more worrying than the official investors being Chinese or Russian.

The amount of money circulating on the black markets, huge drug markets, and with the enormous international criminal activities around the World, is of a far greater concern.  These are all directly damaging our societies, in whatever country you can imagine.  Lives are being destroyed, and I am fairly certain in the case of Afghanistan, the country along with it's common people are being brought down to ruin. >:( >:(
