Ah, just had phone call. Not to say the tyre has been fixed and its ready to collect.  But that the tyre is fine, but the wheel is shafted.

So need to grab it and take it to the wheel place, who I'm now on first name terms with...
Is it made of chocolate?
Clearly.

Yet another puncture.  I'd had a good run for a few months, but thats now 2 in a week.

I'd not had a puncture for years

..... I replaced all 4 tyres on the ML & then got a puncture within a couple of weeks!!!!  >:(

So, turns out it was bent as well.  So the bill for welding and straightening was 160 notes. Ouch.

I discovered a cracked rim on my ML the other year .... I reckoned it was more cost effective to buy a used rim than repair the cracked one.  :)

Surely that's most of the way to a new wheel :-\

If you mean new, as in brand new, they are just shy of £800 ...... per wheel.  :o

Just one?

Might be worth swapping wheels around to prove it to the sensor or the initiators.  Most likely the sensor.  I've yet to have a sensor fail mind, but I think the battery life is quoted as 7 years.  I've bought a couple of packs of 4 from egay in the past, paid around £40 for 4 both times if memory serves, but I bought them when I didn't need them, so could wait for discounts...

Even 2nd hand ones are around £200, plus refurbing costs.  Last time I looked new, way before JLRs recent unrealitic price hikes, they were over £650.

Duck fat :o

As a question, does welding make them more or less prone to repeat cracking :-\

Those that try to sell you new wheels will paint a story of doom and gloom ending in armageddon.  The actual welded bit is going to be stronger, though it's unclear about the surrounding area due to the heat cycle.

That said, I'm fairly certain that 6 of my 8 XJ wheels are now welded, and have never failed on or near the repair areas.
