Omega X25XE Oil pressure light flickering at idle
« on: 24 June 2025, 05:52:46 »

Hi!
I recently started reviving a 1998 2.5 V6 omega with 170k kms as a project car.
After a lot of work i got the car up and running pretty nicely, however after my first longer drive in it i noticed that the oil light flickers at idle when the car is really hot.
It has new:
-oil (5W-40)
-oil filter (newer cartige style), oil press pressure sensor

What are the common couses of this? I doubt its excessive engine wear as it sound really nice, however i do know that is was neglected for about 4 ish years before being parked in 2012.
I have read that the relief valve could get stuck but where do i find that?

It's built into the oil pump. Worth dropping the sump pan and checking the pick up strainer for and debris.

Also you might try 10w40 :y

As Doctor Gollum suggests, check the oil pickup (which is always worth doing, despite the slight mess and hassle - plus you can clean the sump out at the same time - and consider using a slightly thicker oil.  10W40 Semi Synth was the original spec for that age Omega.

Thanks for the help, cleaning the sump was the right call. The bottom of the pan had around 2 milimeter thick layer of jellyfied oil, but i think the issue was caused by the pickup being blocked partially by the jellyfied oil and the o ring for the pick was also extremly flat. Anyway the issue seems to be resolved.
