Y26SE Oil Leak around Oil Filter
« on: Yesterday at 18:18:11 »

Hello again
So V6 with canister type filter. The canister is dripping oil slightly. There is allways a drop when I take a look. Terrible place to study in floor but I took the whole canister off and found that the O-ring there against engile block was hard and brittle and tired. That is one possibility. I alredy have original spare for it. Cam covers are dry, checked with mirror. In canister area there are cooler pipes which may leak and also the area around crank sensor is wet. Any ideas how to proceed? Is crank sensor O-ring typically leaking in these enines and available separately? Does anyone know the size. I changed it perhaps 15 years ago. All ideas welcome.

You've answered your own question.

If it's leaking from the seal between the block and filter case, you have two options:

1. Replace the seal and ensure that the retaining bolt is correctly torqued with thread lock.
2. Convert it to a spin on filter.

Not sure why you would need to disturb the oil cooler plumbing to do either... :-\

Thanks DG, yes canister case is clear. I was just thinking "while I am there" whether I should check something else, too, as it is difficult to see where the oil is really coming from.
1. Is crank sensor going to oil area or is it in a dry place.
2. Tightening the oil tube fittings agains block was in my mind, perhaps I just damage them if I touch...

In this case, I'm of the opinion that you have most likely found the cause, and I'd just sort that.  Mainly because I have some bad memories of oil cooler pipes, lol

Thanks TB, better then not to touch them. Found spare number for the crank O-ring, does anyone know dimensions of that? 90307502
