Nope;

[View Picture Gallery]An all new model from Chrysler owned Hillman made its debut in 1970, the Hillman Avenger. The Avenger was a mid-size family saloon aimed directly at the Morris Marina, Ford Escort and Vauxhall Viva, all of which were relatively new models of a similar size. As well as the usual "standard" models of the Avenger range two sporting variants, the competition bred Tiger model and an even rarer BRM version were also made available in small numbers.

The Avenger Tiger was conceived as an ideal platform for both saloon car racing and rallying which could be ordered direct from the factory as a road car. The Tiger used the four door bodyshell of the standard Avenger and was powered by a tuned 1498cc engine featuring twin-Weber carbs. Some Tigers were also supplied with 1.8 litre and 2.0 litre units, although these were true competition cars.

I did not know that till tonight ::)

Lol, it always makes me chuckle when we reminisce about 'old' cars.

Bitter experience is that when you actually get in one and drive it again......you realise they are pretty Shite compared to the 30 years newer ones we have grown used to.
Here we go again Mark.... :D The Cortina felt a little strange & i wondered what i'd done for the first mile or two but i'm well settled in now & loving driving it & all the attention it attracts. 8-)

I agree, but yours is a new one, ::) not an old 'Metal' interior one, they are a bit different, I discoverd that 4 years ago when I bought a ford 107E, fond memories but forgot what they are really like ::) Would still have a 60' or 70's sporting Ford if I had the money, or a Mini :y

Passed my test 1974 in my old man's  Mazda RX2  . Anyone remember them?   Went like stink ,  guzzled petrol , let go on corners even in the dry on rock hard Bridgstone tyres. First car of my own was a mini 850 , little bit slower !   BTW going back to original thread doesn't 12 grand reserve seem a bit steep , not sure you couldn't get an original one or even maybe a lotus cortina for that money in the present economic climate ?

Going back to the OP... my friend Markie has a Mark 1 1972 Escort.

He paid not much more than £50 for a rusty shell and a big box of bits... and through sensible money he now has it restored, sprayed and rebuilt... it is worth more sentimentally than any Omega, despite how much I wind him up over it :D

It's also the old 1300 pushrod engine - which we share a passion for :y

my old man had one of those, chewed rotor tips like no ones business

My first car was a mini, loved it, and i have about another 10 after that........at the time XR3's were still new, RS turbo Escorts were revered as hot hatches as was the ubiquitous Golf GTI Mk1

Astra GTE were a bit to 'jelly mould for me, Cav SRi's were the most stolen cars in their time, Monza GS\E's were a better, more subtle alternative to the Capri ( i had a 3.0s and 2.8 injection) we used t called them 'speedboats' due to their nose up attitude

and Porsche 924 were still considered 'respectable' especially the turbo version with 170 bhp  ;) and the 911 was...and still is my dream car, the Lamborghini Countach adorned my bedroom wall as did the tennis girl who was scratching her arse   :P

Yeah ,  we blew
 the rotor tips as well  . We were fitting new points and rocking  the car back and forth to set the timing /gap .  what we didn't know is if you turn the engine backwards  it blitzes the tips .  Iirc car cost 2K new , replacement engine was about 800  , dad got about 700 trade in after 2 years for a saab.. Probably the equivalent of blowing about 15k in 2 years on a car in todays money , expensive motoring!1

I had that poster too .  Some of the tennis players actually look like that now , in those days it was Billie Jean King or Anne Jones , not sure you'd want either of them showing you their bum !
