Holiday types
« on: 21 June 2026, 20:28:15 »

Mrs TB and I were chatting about holidays and options over tea tonight, and wondered what is most common.

There will be a follow up question once these are collated.

Gave up having holidays about 25 years ago.
Might start up again if I reach retirement but it would almost certainly be in the UK.
Cant be arsed with the hassle of airports etc just to get somewhere where its too hot for me.

The clientele on here necessitates another option: I'm too old/infirm/senile to travel abroad. The insurance would cost more than the holiday.

1, 2 & 5 for me, assuming 5 includes AirBNB/Vrbo type things. Plus cheap (and some not so cheap) motels on fly drives to the USA.

Mostly depends how fussy the people I'm travelling with are.

1,2,4 and 5 for me.

Not very keen on the UK - well England. The traffic is just horrendous. Plus the petty rules everywhere. One day might do Ireland down  via Stranraer

Odd ball here :-\

Last actual holiday was 1985 to Great Yarmouth
Last holiday abroad i was 18 (now 65)

Mobility is now my issue so caravan I cant deal with.

Hotel is an option
So maybe my/our option 1 2 and  deepening on facilities dont mind trying to abroad if wheelchair access is possible.

Always (1). With two kids SWMBO is of the view that its not a holiday if she has to cook, clean up or make beds.  ;D

Strewth....you must be almost 80 already. >:D

At this rate you'll likely drop while at work.

Still, that will solve the holiday dilemma once and for all. ;)

I used to fly several times a year for a many years, and if I never fly again I couldn't care less.

Hotel are always noisy with banging fire doors and old duffers waking me up as they charge down for the first breakfast sitting at 6 AM.

A Villa in the mountains with it's own pool and an attractive young girl to cook and clean would suit me best. She could make extra money if she is willing to agree to any personal requests I may have. >:D

With SWMBO's increasing mobility issues, we tend to be home birds now. Always found Spain/Greece too hot for me to enjoy anyway. She loved it though.

Tend to stick to Gran Canaria for holidays, and tend to do all inclusive for convenience, but you still have the option to go out once the hotel bar closes or eat out whenever.

Tend to go midrange so not too fancy but nice enough... Decent food/Aircon.

Obviously away 3-5 nights a week for work and apart from a couple of destinations we're self catering, if that counts.
