check ebuyer, sometimes they give away coolers with the chip.

I would get something decent like one with an Alaska fan.

Just bought one of these.

https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Fans%2C+Heatsinks%2C+Coolers/Akasa+AK-965+Intel+92mm+Heatpipe+Cooler+-+775+?productId=28241

Bought a Motherboard and Quad core with 4GB of PC8500 from a mate and he is chucking in a load of liquid cooling bits for the board.  So at some stage will be looking for a Reservoir, radiator and pump to have a play with liquid cooling, but just need a standard fan for now. :D

Bit gimmicky that heatsink..........lIt only needs heatpipes to try and over come the inferior positioning of the fan!

As for the water cooled stuff, put it straight on eaby!

Most of the heatsinks dont look that much different, but decided to go for it due to the reaons you mention.

I was considering having a play with the liquid cooling, one of the reasons was to save so much dust being dragged into the case

So, are you going to also liquid cool;

The memory
The bridge chips
The garphics cards
The hard disk
The power supply
The DC-DC's

If not then you still need fan air cooling so.....bung it on ebay.

These water cooling setups I have seen cause big issues, including serious galavanic corrosion!

have no intentions of rushing into it, if that were the case it would allready be done, will probably carry on collecting the bits till I have enought to complete.

For a long time have considered just fitting the LC just for the memory cooling, tried the bridge fans for a while but too noisy.  all the machine I have ever tried running 4 x ram in they have allways suffered heat issues..  Not that I have tried that many.

The stock coolers that intel provide with retail chips (I'd always recommend retail over OEM for a number of reasons) are more than enough.  With Core2, TDP for quad is 95W, 65W for dual core.  Not massive amounts compared to the AthlonXP series or the early Prescott P4s

Water cooling systems only necessary in case of "violent" overclocking..

Zalman,Asus ,Revoltec,Arctic brands are more than adequate for CPU cooling..

But as an additional info if you want extra reliability from your disk (some brands are really getting hot even 7200 RPMS)
I can recommend something like that
(if your environment is hot which I think in UK is not)

I'm using a Zalman CNPS9700 LED on my overclocked core 2 dual, and will keep it when I pop a quad in this autumn. Can definitely recommend the Zalman. If you are not overclocking then use a standard Intel.

Have fun

Seems I have picked up the following.

2 x Corsair 2GB PC2-8500 C5 XMS2 Dominator (2x1GB) (4gb total)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 95W G0 Stepping

Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R P35 Socket 775 Motherboard

Plus a colection of bitz.  inc a firewire card, various water cooling blocks, DVI and HDMI concectors/converters.

Not bad for the bargain sum of £*? :-[

Only down side the board is optimised for the ATI serious of Graphics cards rather than the Nvidea.  So on the lookout now for a cheap ATI graphics card ((512mb high end) :y
