Shall I or shant I?
« on: 10 October 2008, 13:55:48 »

I am really torn here. I have the option of converting my 3.0 V6 to LPG for a super price. I won't post the exact cost in case I'm not meant to - but using a brand new kit that we all know very well...with a donut tank, It's under £700.

Petrol is going down, and I'm getting consistently over 30mpg on petrol, so I am torn.

What do you guys think?

When are you selling the car?

Soon or keep for a few years.

I reckon LPG will be back to under 50p soon.

Just do it!

Anyone seen any evidence of LPG coming down? None around here. All 59.9p :'(

Is that with a 4 hole tank, James? - or the one we put on Marie's?

I'd LPG it.

Even if petrol prices are coming down, you'll still be saving money.

It's the single hole tank we used on my Estate and Marie's 2.0.

LPG is 50ppl here in Cardiff....

I'll get max 22mpg on gas (past experience) - yet, on petrol I am getting 35.6mpg average on a run (which is mostly the type of driving I do...)

I am actually undecided  :-/

Might get a slightly better resale value with LPG with current concerns over petrol prices

Is this a facelift estate James?  Where does the tank go?

I've not paid much attention to LPG in the past but considering it on my latest acquisition. ::)

Your mileage is the biggest factor in the decision. You're taking about 8-10k miles as a payback time before you save anything. That's 6 months motoring for me. If yours is a lot longer... :-/

If you're averaging over 30MPG from petrol I think you'll get more than 22 from LPG. Possibly 24/25. I'm getting 22 where I used to get 27 on petrol.

50p is less than I am paying :(

Can't see such a big difference as 35 to 22 - I managed 25mpg over a long run doing mid 80s

Although converting to gas is a good price in your case, it's gonna be taking longer to pay itself off because the petrol price is dropping and gas isnt!! if petrol was to hit this rumoured 74ppl it wouldnt be worth gassing

get out your calculator and see how long it would take to repay given the current price difference, but even then there's no way of knowing yet how much petrol will fall to, nor how soon that'll happen.

Will you wave your magic wand over my car please James? The best I've ever seen on the display of mine was 31.something mpg.  :-/
