How puzzling
« on: 15 October 2008, 21:39:35 »

This Merc appears to have been abandoned. It has not moved for the last 6-8 weeks, has two flats on the front and is not parked outside any house. It is taxed to end-Oct 08, however. The local plod say they have no interest. It is an E220 CDI on a Y plate with leather interior.

It puzzles me as to why a car like this has been left to almost certain council crushing come the end of the month.

Very strange.  :-?

I`ve heard of a a few of these 'unwanted' cars left at Hospital carparks (often for months on end before anyone realises)...It seems that when a Doctor (whom has been working legally in the U.K) decides to leave and return to whence they came, they often just leave the car as there`s too much hassle in trying to sell them.
Evidently (so I`m told by a car-park security officer) there`s a perfectly legal way of assuming legal-title to such 'unwanted' cars via the DVLA....`takes while to sort-out the paperwork; but it happens regularly.
Now, that`s what I call 'a result'! ;)

Are you saying that I could acquire it? Not sure I want it, mind.

What would it be worth, I wonder?

The E220CDI is very much sought after, so should keep its value well. (and the Estate is even more so...)

So even if it has serious problem i.e. very high mileage and bust engine, it will definitely be worth repairing.

The owner may have perished / left the country or whatever... ?

He'll still need to cut some keys and get into it to drive it away...

Outside my friends house three years ago a Renault Lagonda was 'abondoned' outside for about five months, with no one in the road knowing the owner, the DVLA showing no interest, and the Police taking no action as it was not stolen and had a valid tax disc.

The tax disc eventually ran out, and big yellow notices were posted on the car warning of removal by DVLA authorities within seven days as it was untaxed.  Within two days a car turned up, a man jumped out and unlocked the car, removed all the stickers, cleaned the filthy windows and just drove off!! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Work that one out!! ::) ::) ::) ::)

Mind you, the folding mirrors on the merc are manual, not automatic, so someone must have parked it very carefully before leaving it there...  :-?

Not "lost or stolen" according to the police.

Driver's mirror is folded, passenger's isn't.
