Windscreen - how do you clean yours?
« on: 06 November 2008, 17:12:35 »

I was just wondering what I could use to clean the outside of my windscreen - when it's raining it has a really annoying strip right in my vision where the passenger side wiper stops its travel and starts to return - hard to describe but it is really distracting me when it rains, when it's dry it is perfectly clear! I always use Auto Glym products on the car (soap and drying cloth).

I have tried cleaning the screen with some old newspaper as I was told by a friend that this should clear it but no luck as it's still visible.

Try some meths.

Or even neat, not diluted screenwash, on a rag.

good old Tuns. Always helpfull... nearly.
First time i gave my screen a good scrub was with mr muscle window cleaner, the green stuff, then vinegar. Good solid scrub with kitchen role until dry and no black marks at all on the paper. Managed to get so clean the water would
settle in beads and just roll off with the wind blast didnt even need the wipers for a while. Could never get it quite that clean again, cant be arsed to scrub it to that level. Worth a go though. :-)

Clean, and then coat 'that' area with rainx, water will just run off

Some like the whole screen done, I dont, but do like the sides and rear doing

Thanks for the suggestions - I am going to try ALL of them lol, I think I have managed to transfer some of the tyre dressing to the windscreen by using the same chamois leather to dry the whole car - it must be silicone based, The screen is fairly new so once I spend some time cleaning it with meths, vinegar and mr muscle and then rainex I will replace the wipers as they are bound to be "contaminated" and see if that cures it :)

If you wash & shammy the car at least once a week when the windows are dry use a good glass cleaner with on & off cloths. Does'nt take long & looks good too. 8-)

windscreen aint a problem for me

in this weather ( light drizzle) i have to wipe the side windows and mirrors clean before i can go anywhere as i cant see a thing - even better when it starts to get dark.

i drive a vivaro with no rear window and cleaning the windows everytime i get into the van in the rain is a right pain in the arse.

reversing blind is fun :D

I use neat screenwash in a small sprayer bottle, then use a cloth.
