Bad day
« on: 13 November 2008, 11:41:55 »

As some of you may have read already my alternator went on the car last night. Found a Garage to do it for me today for £140 thats supply and fit (secondhand alternator).

Of course today had to try and get the car sorted so phoned my guvnor at 7am to tell him I wouldn't be and why which resulted in him hanging up on me.

All was silent until he phoned at 10am to tell me that he was sacking me because I'm not there today.
I explained to him again why but he didn't want to know Result is now that I'm out of work.

If there are any other Truckers on here that may know anyone local to me that are hiring please give me a shout.

I'm 25 with class 2 and crane licence digi card and been on the trucks since 21.

Thanks  John :(

That's not right - they can't do that unless there was a case of gross misconduct. Threaten them with an unfair dismissal tribunal.

Only started there about 8 weeks ago. They are supposed to give me a weeks notice so it says in the contract so I phoned him and he said I will be getting an extra weeks wage to serve the notice

I have spoken to a company that deal with employment law just waiting for a call back. Depending on what they say I'm going to take it further even if I get nothing out of it just to show that this company cannot treat there staff like this

I'm not having a go or anything, but I would be pretty cheesed off if someone phoned in and said they weren't coming in because their car was bust. When I worked in Comet at Chester, a lad phoned in who lived in Wrexham saying he was snowed in and couldn't get to work, you should have seen his face when I turned up at his house to pick him up ::)

i'm a class one driver and due to the downturn in work all over the country companies are cutting costs everywhere. yes a company can sack you without reason within the first year BUT they cannot do this over the phone , by text or e-mail . there was an agreement between the unions and the FTA which means you have to be allowed to return for your next shift and you must be told in writing the reasons for your dismissal even more so if it for a reason relating to misconduct or poor attendance then you have the right to be suspended with full pay until a hearing is arranged . if you need more info let me know . i used to be t&g shop steward .
