An expensive car to fix. I would walk away.
140 mph,I seem to remember you being rather critical of people who break the speed limits a while back.  :) ::)

I admit to having a soft spot for BM's but leave this one, plenty to choose from. ::)

i would be inclined to find out exactly where the oil is coming from and the true cost of repair, i don't care what the owner says he is trying to get rid of the car remember, he will tell you anything.....

As for the speed, i will not comment on that aside from, if the owner had told you to drive in off a cliff to test its structural rigidity would you?

Remember this was 50k car IN 1997

Today its an old car that needs money spent on it, money that you will never recoup.......

you seem to have your heart set on it, for 5K there are stack of them out there, and many of them have been better looked after than this one by the sounds of it

If you have disposable money then go for it. But remember this is no ordinary car... it will bleed you dry if anything goes wrong. As for 140mph on a quiet country road... ever seen what a pheasant can do for your car at 70mph? It wrote mine off. So at 140mph... I feel you would end up with your head up its bottom!

Have I got this right...£5000 for an elderly 7 series BMW.
Worth about £1000 in my opinion. :-/ :-* :-*

I felt exactly the same about my beloved alfa 166. But it turned bad, the rather thing ran properly for about a week out of the six months I owned it. Looked nice though...red leather...pearlescent blue....mumble mumble.. :(

£5k for a '97 7 series ??  hhmmmmmm - i wouldnt do it TBH - i am a beemer fan, have had 4 and hopefully gettin another next year - but that is too too much for an oldie- look around, theres is plenty around. - not so keen on the 7's tend to go for the 5's....528 or 530 but its personal choice  :y :y
