Dont make me the Scape Goat.

Going by the rules is one thing.  I didnt create them.  Personally when I cant see what I was supposed to be reading I took an image and posted it so you vould see what I could see, Not so much to complain but as in to help out.  Sadly that fell on deaf ears.

Text speak all I said is that I dont like it.  Did I tell anyone to stop using it, I then referred to a post of abbreviations.

If you dont like what I put then please dont have a go at me for pointing out things that the forum creates.

Feel free to close my account.  Wasting my time here.

Not making you a scapegoat mate!

Obviously by the amount of posts you have made on the subject, it is annoying you more than anyone else...

All the graphics on here use to much bandwidth for my browsing method, so I found adblock, and put a lot of effort into making a large blocklist, of all avatar and signature graphics.
I have given this to a few people who have had similar issues...

Was just trying to fix your problem until the forum is back to normal, be that by Admin policing the graphics, or getting a fix for the resize bug that was the route of all this.

???

Easy tiger!!! I saw what happened and there's no need for that Skruntie. A mod took offence to one of 7,300 posts. I appreciate what you were trying to do and have posted the odd identical post myself.

Oversize avatars are a PIA and you were trying to help. No malice intended is my view. But I can see that it could have looked the other way.

Pick yourself up mate, dust your knees off and Carry On Posting!

Jim

Skruntie - PM sent.

Right. Avatars. History. Site stability/capacity.

Firstly, the software upgrade.  This HAD to be done quicker than we anticipated, thus only had 1 week of testing - mostly with ie7 and ff3, and mostly by me (which introduces a false sense to test due to my network connectivity).  Reason it had to be done in a hurry was the forum was about to hit its capacity limit, and anyone with an ounce of intelligence could have DOS'd it.  Remember, we have a few credible DOS threats from people capable, as well as a few from those incapable, not to mention another forum we severely pissed-off.  So, the upgrade was hurried with insufficient testing.  We were within days of pretty much losing the site.

Once upgraded, we had a massive problem with the new code, which meant we had to disable automatic image resizing - this is when the avatar issue came to light.  The avatar sizes have always been in rules (mainly for low bandwidth users).

Now we have, until people resize, and issue - page jumping for ie users, or avatars sizes for ff users.  in october, the ie:ff ratio for our site was 72%:19%, so guess which way we chose, and why ;). Add 93% in october used windows, and all windows comes with ie, thats a simple workaround  :-X, esp when there are very few reasons to use ff on windows technically (even if just temp whilst we resolve this issue).

I cannot dedicate 100% of my time to resolve this issue - I have worked closely with developers to get current workaround, and a full fix some be in next release.  I do not have the time to test and deploy a cvs version at the moment.

If you use IE7. Then there wouldn't be any conplaints.

People using firefox and opera should be banned.

Mmm interesting .... it's ok to break site rules on avatar sizes .... (and signature sizes) ... but users who obey these rules will be forced to use particular software or face punitive sanctions .....

:)

Having posted details on oversized avatars I got my last post deleted on the subject stating

it served no useful purpose ;)

Which basically I took as I dont matter as I use Firefox.

(Post Count 7349)
Misread ;) - the thread i deleted (and is probably still in our recycler if admins/mods want to view) served no useful purpose, in fact came across as a witchhunt, hence deleted, as it served no useful purpose, but i guarantee, like this thread, would cause friction.  The admins were/are deleting avatars as fast as we find non compliant ones - obviously concentrating on the worse first
