An interesting Cam cover gasket change yesterday!
« on: 12 December 2008, 08:31:50 »

I completed the cam cover gasket change on the 2.5V6, which did not get done during Mr Loo Knee's christmas bash, yesterday.

Found a few issues

  • A bolt missing out the throttle body
  • Breather pipe connection snapped off the back of the breather bridge (an aradite attempted repair had been tried)
  • One bolt missing from the passenger side cam cover and the remains of the bolt snapped off in the cam bearing.
  • Bosch plug leads not long enough!
So.....beware Bosch plug leads, they dont fit to well and the longest one is not realy long enough!

The breather bridge was fixed by drilling out the bridge with a 6.5mm hole to insert the remains of the connection (first applying some solvent to create a welded joint). This gives a shorter connection but, is very strong and easy manageable

Cam bearing was removed then the bolt remains removed....a suitable replacement bolt was then found, cut down to size, finished and fitted.

So, an interesting one and the above pushed the job time out to a total of 3hours!  :o

All was good once it was started  :y

On top of that little lot, I also managed to get two front springs and a CV joint changed on a Corsa.

The laser changed on the NAV unit of an NCDC for SP_3.2, this also worked fine.

Went to see 'the little lad' in his christmas play....in the starring role as joseph (which was very nerve racking given what he does sometimes!).

Feel a bit tired today!

Would people be interested in an NCDC mechanism exchange service to correct failed pickups on the nav sections?

I would like to add that the previous issues had nothing to do with Loo Knee or myself ::)

I've fitted two sets now, one to my own and the ones at Loo Knees a couple of weeks ago and they were fine. I bought mine off Ebay and I paid about £30 I think.

Interesting....I wonder if they were real Bosch ones....the longest lead was to short (fortunately I had a 19K mile genuine one to replace that one with) and the sections that attach to the plug sat much to high with teh leads coming off at a poor angle.

Build quality seemed ok but the fit was crap

I would say that the sections that fit to the plugs are not as good a fit as genuine, you could pull them off without the use of the orange plug lead tool.

Did they fit comfortably in the holes though, these seemed loose and sat 5-10mm to high?

Right, going to check the Bosch part numbers:

B143 seems to be the ones I fitted yesterday.....yet B162 look MUCH better

They were a solid fit on top of the plug but the diameter at the top of the lead that seals against the camcover was slightly too small

I think that will be an excellent service, but possibly lost in this thread ;)
