Had i not have used the hard shoulder there'd be nothing left of him or his van. I've seen it first hand where all you can see is a crumpled box with an arm & a leg sticking out...it's sickening, you don't see this on telly only if it happens in front of you or you're one of the last through before the road is shut.
I wish the law were there, nicked him for driving like a complete cock & showed him what so nearly happened to him. I'm not being melodramatic, he was seconds away from a hideous death.

Of course you can imagine the headlines next day,

"Van driver killed by HGV" They would, i guarantee it.

And how hard to prove that he pulled out, rather than you falling asleep at the wheel................

Heading home from Winnington (Northwich) this afternoon Bradford area a Sprinter size box van was crawling along the hard shoulder indicating to pull out. I'm in the inside lane, my truck sits on the limiter @ 57/58mph. Cars in the centre lane are passing me on my right. I can gross 44t but was 37 ish (enough). He won't i thought, he'll build up speed before rejoining the carriageway...did he break. Straight out in front of me!!! I anchored up that hard i got 5th wheel bang that hard it shook the cab. (some of you will know what i mean but it's BAD) Just before hitting him i came off the brake & used the hard shoulder to avoid the cretin, there was smoke, horns & flashing headlights from other vehicles behind me who nearly hit him themselves. That should've been a proper pile up.
I wonder if this bloke realizes how lucky his family are to have the husband/Daddy with them this Xmas. :-?

If the same situation happend again...would you do anything differently.?

Certainly sounds like you saved the day with quick reactions. :y

Dodgy film & this one was the truckers fault but yesterdays result would've been the same. It was close.

I can't deny some truck drivers are a holes & bully smaller vehicles. They are out of order & i hate them as much as anyone else as they get the rest of us a bad name. Bad Apple syndrome.
Many junctions & roundabouts are laid out with cars/vans in mind but we still have to use them. Not pinching half your lane for fun, we physically need it. By the same count i do meet many car drivers who understand, stop in the right place & flash me through. Only costs them a few seconds, flash the lights, wave, beep air horns in thanks, everyone's on thier way in a good mood. Some just don't get it.
Easy to tell a driver from a motorist!!!!!

That sums it up Broocie & i'll stop now, suffice to say stuff happens most days & i don't post it, just this one was 'kin close. You of all folk know what would've happened had i stayed behind him trying to stop.   My cab, his bulkhead & nothing left to put in the bodybag. This one shook me up. Why should feel responsible for a loss of life, i so nearly was. Thanks all for compliments on my reactions but TBH it was a combination of blind panic & instinct.
Finally some sort of awareness of larger vehicles should be added to the Driving Test.

or they make sure more drivers in Bradford have actually passed their test.  :(

I don't know if I mentioned this before, but drivers over in Northern Ireland ae a lot moe likely to let people in, cross in front of them etc. Drivers seem a bit slower over there, seems they just think at a slower pace. Wonder if it means less accidents.
