Nankang...ok so there budget but for the money id highly recommend them.

Good wet grip and last very well.

Cheaper tyres IMO tend to last longer due to the compound being harder but dont handle aswell in wet/dry, i think my next set of tyres will be Toyo Proxes, only cuz i can get em at 50 quid each on 235 45 17s for the Mv6, because a mate works in Bridgnoth Tyre center!

I had some Nexen branded tyres on my Astra,
i hauled a heavy sound system around so i needed hard compond and weight hold







Thay lasted 2 years and still have good tread front/ rear.

Continental Sport Contact 2 are good for me, £50 for a pair off ebay with 6mm of tread and no punctures / damage

personally i dont trust nankang, i purchased a set of four but i had to replace them after four weeks due to safety concerns,
basically the tyres split on the side walls on a moulding line ,,,,

other people may well say they have used nankang and have been fine but you asked for opinions and this is mine ,
im currently using good year nct tyres and bridgestone potenzas and honestly cannot fault them

Can i suggest posting what you expect from your tires, so people can judge what to recommend. Do you want grip or wear or both, low road noise, winter, all reason? Driveing style comes into it, if you drive miss daisy you will be upset when a more expensive soft tire wears out in 5000 miles.

And suggest those recommending post whats good or bad about your tires.

Reason being, for instance one persons "good" tire may be soft and grippy, he wont want want another persons "good" long life plastic tire and  may well end up in a ditch/tree.

Use Falkens myself, cant remember the exact model, but have found they are a longer life version
of what i normally have, so  are giving a  little less grip, wim refer to them as a premium tire but are slightly cheaper and quieter than Pirelli p9000s(or 6000s whatever they are called) hth.

Where's that? The best I've found for the Astra diesel has been around £40 each for a 195 60 H15

I would always be sceptical of tyres you don't know the history of....


Back to the subject matter in hand, I tend to use Dunlop SP90x0 or Conti SC2/3 on MV6 where I look for a more performance tyre with excellent roadholding, braking and acceleration.

On the tractor, I use a budget Nexen CP641 (225/55/16) where I look for value, without compromising too much on performance.  The previous crap Avon ZZ3s the tractor had on the back lasted 4k, and I didn't get any grip from them, so I avoid Avon like the plague...

We loved the conti SC2's

Recently replaced both cars tyres with conti sport 3's and they are not as good.

Great in the dry, but a bit slippier in the wet, dont trust them the same.

Not sure what I will try next time.

Very good point which the tyre manufacturers could do with taking on board too. They have large ranges of tyres, and, if you read their marketing hype they're all the "best" tyre money can buy, but try to find a comparison - which ones are softer, which ones are harder, which are best for low noise, fuel eonomy, performance, longer life, which are better in the wet, int he dry, etc. and there's no clue IME.

I have SP Sport Maxx on mine at the moment and they seem OK. Certainly work nicely in the wet and dry. About 90 quid a corner fitted IIRC so not too dear. Seem to be lasting 20-25K ish. No idea how they relate to the other tyres in the Dunlop range:
