like we didn t know but how two faced is this???
taken in full from the yahoo news page:-
Tony Blair has said the rising impact of carbon emissions on the environment will not stop him jetting abroad for his holidays.
The comments have angered campaigners who say he needs to set a personal example and reduce the impact of his own carbon footprint on the environment.
"I personally think these things are a bit impractical actually to expect people to do that," he said when asked if he should take his holidays closer to home.
The comments come after a row
between one of his ministers and low-cost airline chief Michael O'Leary. Environment Minister Ian Pearson singled out Ryanair as "the irresponsible face of capitalism" in the fight to reduce carbon emissions.
Mr O'Leary in turn said Mr Pearson "didn't know what he was talking about" and attacked green taxes on air travel as just another tax.
And now he appears to have been backed by Mr Blair who cautioned against setting people "unrealistic targets" or ending cheap air travel.
He said: "The danger, for example, if you say to people 'Right, in Britain, you know, you're not going to have any more cheap air travel', everybody else is going to be having it.
"So you've got to do this together and you've got to do it in a way that doesn't end up actually putting people off the green agenda by saying you must not have a good time anymore and can't consume."
He added that advances in sciences and technology are the key to reducing carbon emissions.
Friends of the Earth head of campaigns Mike Childs said: "It's disappointing that Tony Blair is refusing to set an example on tackling climate change.
"But it is even more disappointing that his Government is failing to take decisive action to cut UK emissions.
"Aviation is the fastest growing source of carbon dioxide in the UK. But rather than taking steps to curb the rise in air travel, the Government is encouraging it by giving the aviation industry multi-billion pound tax-breaks and allowing UK airports to expand."
so why is his government so determined to get cars off the road?
he says he cant tell britain no more cheap air travel everyone else can have it.... doesnt the same apply to petrol?
also he mustn't put us off the green agenda "by saying you must not have a good time anymore and can't consume" well driving my car is having a good time to me !
sorry if this seems daft but it got my goat good style
