oh & just to add, apart from average speed cams that are erected on motorway road sherks ive never come across a camera that isnt in its database, & as said you can update it anyway for a fee via the website :y

in the post today a notice from West Mercia police saying i was caught by a silly yellow box 'speeding' in a 30mph zone. GRRRRR

doing Thirty-flipping-Five mph!!!!!  35! i ask you.

Beware what speedos are telling you when near cameras!

As it was a fine sunday afternoon, i reckon they've made a mint on that day as i was doing the same speed as all the rest of the traffic! I guess it must be an accident blackspot or something but we were just crusing through the village at about 30mph i thought.

If memory serves it was the A4103 from Hereford to Worcester which is mostly a 50/60 limit and 30s in the villages. So as is the norm, its often impossible on country roads to go over the 60 limit, but apparently easy to be over the 30.

I can't decide what I'm more annoyed about though, getting a £60 fine and 3 points or the fact is was for only 5mph over a limit!

although i don't condone irresponsible driving of any sort, which sometimes includes speeding, I was taught that driving to the conditions is more important than speedo watching. So i'm (almost) always careful to be under 30mph limits, but on the motorway i've been harrassed doing 70mph and have often stuck at more...Which reminds me i failed my first driving test for driving too slowly....haha!

I don't think there's anything i can do about the ticket except take it on the chin, but feel the need to vent here.
  >:( >:( >:( >:(
aah. thanks.

PS even more annoying, Tomtom said i was doing 30mph. last time i trust that piece of technology!

PPS hunting through google i found the same speed camera (Leigh Sinton) was burnt with a petrol filled tyre in nov 2007.....

that only 5 mph, extra is enough to decide weather a person lives or dies, speed limits are there for a reason
cameras are made visible painted bright yellow and are printed on map, etc, if you miss a camara ,, what else do you miss? :-?

p.s for a signal to travel up to a satilite and back to your tom tom, there is abit of a delay, hence wrong speed figure,    however theres a big dial in front of you called a speedo :P

Tis a real bummer I know. Perhaps we should all move to Swindon where they don't maintain their cameras cos the revenue goes to Central Gov not Local, so they've stopped maintaining them.

But I bet the bu$$ers have kept all their mobile ones sitting over the M4 >:(

The camera at the bottom of the M11 is the most lucrative apperently,it has taken over £1 million quid, accidents at the site have also increased quite a lot since it was installed..........road safety my arse. >:(

the tomtom's actually my wife's - i prefer maps! but we were travelling together so used it for an eta of time home. will look into the talex and as theboy says, I gotta take it on the chin as I cant prove my speedo was calibrated correctly.

also, as my speedo was playin up a few months back (i took it out and plugged the wire in tighter which seems to work most of the time) i realise i cant rely on its accuracy either any more!

oh and i did see the camera, i see them everywhere, and everywhere i make sure i'm doing under the limit or at most, the same as everybody else.

its just real bad luck to be 1mph over - next time I'm in a hurry to get somewhere i'll be late. oh no, i do that already.  :-[

I would imagine a lot of shunts or at least near misses are caused by sudden slow downs when the camera is noticed !!!!  However, as alluded to by HGV ---- if we were within the limit in the first place there would be no need for a sudden slow down  ::)

Yes, we all drift over the limit. In the old days a copper would use his discretion as to whether it was dangerous or not ( weather, road, traffic all come into play) .... but a bl**dy camera just pops off a piccy automatically!

Ive been saying this for years since camera"s came out....if everyone simply stuck the limit religiously or even better 5mph UNDER the speed limit then the camera"s would have too be scrapped as they wouldn't generate any funds.

But no people like too think they know better and wonder why the get a speeding ticket. ;D

I for one don't think I know better, I was surprised to get a ticket as I thought I was doing the posted speed limit!

I think it can be hard to drive at under the posted limit in some conditions if it causes hold ups, or when limits are changed (eg from 40 to 30 - catches a lot of people out) etc

It could be argued that the people who set the limit in the first place think they know better and rely on statistics to do so. and statistics can be used to prove anything!
I like the idea that somebody posted elsewhere of variable limits depending on time and conditions. one day eh.

As I said earlier i actually failed a driving test for driving too slowly - the tester said i was not at an appropriate speed for the conditions. Since then i've been very aware of my vehicles speed whether legal or not!

There's one in Rockingham (I think - Home of the Speedway... or on thar road anyway) thats where you got either from a 50 or 60 down to a 30, immediately down a pretty steep hill and round a bend and WALLOP a Truvelo (the one that looks at the front of the car)!  I was told to watch out for it and it still took me by surprise.  not sure on the range of those, but i guess by the time you see it, it's seen you...

I've long since lost my 6 points (SP50, 99.51mph on the M40, 8am Sunday morning...).  I know the reason - I had a faulty speedo (it was accurate to 74mph, then didn't go any further...) but never try and use that as an excuse as you stand a chance of getting nabbed for not having an accurate speed indicator in the vehicle!  My Dad was a Police Mechanic some years ago and the amount of cars which ended up on their rolling road for checking was amazing...Most of them with a nice shiny set of new Alloy wheels, or had just had an engine & box swap...

Same here..my argument of its better too be 5 mins late in this life than 40 years early for the next fell on deaf ears.

No the point i was making if everyone drove either on or below the speed limit it would put the camera"s out of business.

Totally agree with who ever sets the speeds shouldn't use just statistics....i live quite close too the ex PM John major and surprise surprise the limits are ridiculously low anyone who"s traveled from Huntingdon too RAF Alconbury will know.

you can take your car to a vosa tachograph calibration center normally found at a commercial garage, (we have one) they can put the vehicle on the rolling road and check exact speed,

we did one for a woman once, who had a speeding fine , dident belive she was in the wrong, cheked it for her and her speedo was actually 3mph faster than the wheel speed ! ;D

agreed camras can be hazardours but again if we obeyed the limits they wouldent be needed. ;)

Not quite true.....theres 3 cameras in Swindon that are still 'live'  ;)

The only ones turned off are on the A420....but you will still get caught ignoring the 50mph limit, coz theres only 2 cameras....that are off, coz their within the Wiltshire border....all the rest on the A420 are on....coz their in Oxfordshire  ;)

Oh and yes they still use the mobile vans around swindon as well, including the M4 motorway bridges  ;)
