if a car on the road is untaxed and bieng driven, followed by a police car, they check on the dvla, vosa and mid databases and shows not to be taxed, why do we need a tax disc???

why is failing to display an offence when they can pull you for not bieng shown on the data base, why do we need tax discs at all?

the only reason i can find is to allow the gov to raise extra cash for an outdated bit of legislation. there is no possible way a car can be showing a disc and not be on the database as all discs are issued and entered on the system

why cant we get rid of the disc itself and just be innocent until the database proves us wrong?

after all, WE can search the database to see if a car is on there, as i often do before buying a car and after swapping insurance over etc. it will also tell you the ved rate you will be paying too!!

just as in all gov scams like the tv licence and tax disc its a way to penalise the innocent to pay for the few that drive without proper documentation!!

if uninsured drivers are found on the road why cant they take them to a piece of land and run thier car over with a tank or something heavy to crush it and get the point accross, and if they do take up my idea i will do it for free, just provide the tank and the fuel, oh and the insurance as i wouldnt want my tank to be crushed!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Fraudulent Display - wrong disc for the car, reg number changed, etc etc..

Why not just buy your rent within the existing system rather than have the government spend untold gazzillions on something to replace it with?  They wont scrap it, too much revenue in it already...  Wont get put on fuel like other countries.  Its estimated that it would increase fuel prices by something approaching three fold to get the same revenue stream...

Thats what happens now, just that its a big crusher in a recycling centre....

TBH, I think the legislation is fair enough although a bit of a pain if it's going to kick off immediately a car is uninsured rather than after a grace period.

However, I can't see why we have a "problem" with uninsured drivers in the first place. The powers that be have a database that shows the insurance status of every vehicle (minus a couple of exceptions as said) and a network of ANPR cameras, speed cameras, etc. that generate evidence of use of vehicles on the road.

Surely comparison of one with the other will generate a list of vehicles in use on the road but uninsured. Why aren't these vehicles already being raked in by the bucketload and crushed? Too busy sending out NIPs for 31.25MPH in a 30 limit instead?

As usual, the burden of upholding the law falls on those who have no intention of breaking it. >:(

they dont have to use the 'disc' as the information is on the database, except for the traffic wardens no one uses it. it would cut some crimes i.e stealing discs and fraudulent use. i'm not saying scrap ved just the physical disc.

as for the crusher, its not as much fun as destroying something with a tank!!!!

Current legislation only allows for an uninsured vehicle to be physically stopped by a uniformed officer before the nicking/crushing cycle can be started.  The NIP etc only applies to specific offences, of which speeding is just one...

I do know that there is a specific database that ANPR compares against as regards known uninsured vehicles.  Its thereafter down to individual forces how they implement that information in a tactical sense by deploying Officers, etc....

You cannot compare the Mk1 eyeball and a coppers nouse with a camera in every instance.  It takes skill (and practice) to read tax discs of vehicles travelling towards you at speed.  Try it.....   ;)

the copper can look the reg plate up on the pnc and find the details, as they do, and it will show as bieng wanted, stolen etc and correct me if i'm wrong, taxed and insured etc the number plate is far bigger than the tax disc!  and with the auto recognition stuff these days most coppers will just use the technology making discs useless in the fight against stopping uninsured drivers!

plus it would be more ecofriendly to remove the disc as there would be less printing and more use of already operating electric systems!!

p.s theres no cars going past my cul-de-sac so i will be testing the tax disc theory and see just how much skill is involved! what do i do if a car is untaxed? can i squish his car?? :D :D

Not all Police vehicles are ANPR equipped but there is an eyesight standard that is required for cops, either with or without glasses to assist.   :)

If you see a car thats not paid its rent, feel free to catch up with it and drive your pet Chieftan over it....   ;)

.... with numbers on to tell you which month it expired in.  Easy in Jan/Feb, harder as the year unfolds.  We try to get it down to the current year as there are more to choose from.  Try it.  Even you may be surprised....   :)

I hope your tank has road tax/insurance and a very friendly petrol station        .  ;D

One trouble is that some s**T's nick other people's registration plates, like from my wife's Corsa. Imagine the fun if an innocent car were crushed  :'( if my Mig were crushed, I would be crying (and require substantial compensation). Plus I understand some computer systems are not as fast as would be liked (eg flamin' useless)  so there would be a  delay that would render the system useless. Remember that car that passed 5mins ago.......

Plus you have to ask what's a better use of police time, stopping an out of date tax disc, or policing some areas where drunken idiots are kicking the crap out of somebody else. One of my friend's son was killed by being beaten up outside a club in Leicester. Its all about resources, money, I'm sure the police would like a bottomless source of funds, but it ain't going to happen, least not with the current bunch of clowns in power.
