Sky broadband problems.
« on: 30 January 2009, 21:07:39 »

Ive got problems with my sky broadband again.. >:(

Since its been activated in my new place ive getting speeds of just over 300kbs....considering they assured me i should get between 5/8 meg im pretty bloody annoyed.

Even my mobile 3 dongle is faster than that. :-?

Phoned sky and they suggested swapping the micro filter (will if they ever send me another)....they also suggested taking the face plate off the front of BT socket and plug directly into a master socket...ive not as yet as not sure what difference could possibly be.

Not sure if this helps but link too local exchange.

How far are you from the exchange? We've got Sky broadband but we are at the far end of the copper - according to sky and BT the attenuation over the connection is so high we can't expect higher than 512Kb / sec.  :'( :'( :'(

The master socket thing is so that they can confirm that the problem isn't in the house wiring. Just another thing on their robot telephone answerer checklist.  ::)

So its safe enough too plug direct in master socket then. :y

Annoyed as they said they had done several line tests speed should be as quoted....even they agreed the speed im getting is shocking.

Im wondering due too the speed recieved if this would warrant me breaking the contract and going else where. :(

Just checked and im about 2.5/3 miles from flat too the exchange....doesnt sound very far.

Father in law had similar.....

If you do what sky ask, and there is no improvement you will get to someone who knows what they are talking about (ish)

in his case, the line was configured wrong at sky's end, and got very poor speeds and constant (ie every few mins) disconnects.

2 mins with the guy who had the power and all was sorted and normal speeds produced.
