been busy this afternoon.....
« on: 30 January 2009, 20:06:37 »

well this afternoon i decided to tackle changing the radiator on my rover and well it took me 1 1/2hrs. havent done the coolant yet as tomorrow i plan on doing the following:

1. cambelt tensioner & water pump - wont be doing this unless the cam locking tool turns up. and i dont know where to get one tomorrow :'( just hope it does.

2. fuel filter

3.oil filter and oil change - was going to do it today but i couldnt get the sump plug out, going to try again tomorrow.

4. fill the coolant back up.

5. look at the brakes and give them a clean if i get chance and the water is good (ish)

6. forgot to mention the cam covers need changing too.

Those Rovers can be done without a locking tool as long as you mark everything... I normally mark everything at least twice at about 30 degree separation :y :y :y

Its nice to stick the £5 wedge in to stop the cams spinning and letting valves belt the pistons

it will be my first ever cambelt so i would rather stick a £5 wedge in then not.

just trying to figure out where i could get one from tomorrow. i might even ask if i could borrow one from the garage and take it back the next day if i can find one to purchase.

i just dont want to be fillin the coolant tomorrow so i can us the car. then drainin it again in a few days to change the water pump etc.

I must confess i used to wedge something in there but I can't remember what it was... I do know it wasn't the "proper" tool ::) ::)

I've done loads in my time and never had a problem!  Equally for £5 and your first time I'd get a wedge :y :y :y :y

most factors stock the draper £5 wedge. I think the type you need is K16 from memory.

I have one here somewhere had you of said a couple of days ago
