Thread seems to be meandering all over the place now, anyone remember what its supposed to be about ?

In all seriousness tho, I enjoy being on here for 2 reasons 1) the technical info and help and 2)the banter. Agree that , if your looking for a particular subject, it is sometimes difficult to find/refind what you want , even with the search facility, because of spam etc. As I think I mentioned before, re-unclear titles, the Toyota estima site has the facility, that when you click on a title it gives you the first couple of lines of the originating text so saves you having to open a thread unnecassarily. How much work would that involve to do here perhaps? Obviously dont want to create unnecessary work for admin for sake of posters being more detailed in their titling, but worth looking at? As for the "chatroom" side of it, whilst I'm sure none of us like wading thru loads of spam etc, surely this is a major side of the forum where we can all get to know each other better, have a bit of a banter and talk about issues/news etc that interest us. Doesnt take long going thru the threads before you come across messages of support and help/advice on non-mig topics either, which is surely another important part of the forum,

Re the preview - easy enough to do, but do to the architecture of the software we are using, would kill the server. Additionally, the extra banwidth to do that would have an impact on the network around the server, and be an issue for those on limited bandwidth.
As to Genchat - we're certainly not trying to kill it off, quite the opposite, just trying to make it a bit more balanced. I get a fair few PMs from people about how they are finding genchat cumbersome having to wade through pages and pages of, for eg, tired old jokes, links to bbc site everytime a new headline is announced, constant PC help request etc. Whilst all these have a place in genchat, from the feedback I get, we need to look at a few things.
genchat has always been a key part of the site - its the thing that makes us a 'community' rather than a group of strangers. Long may that continue

Please do post your views on this thread, or if you would rather not do so in the open, PM me or any of the other admins

Lastly, what a great place oof is - the traffic the server deals with proves that I'm not alone in thinking that. genchat is a vital part of the jigsaw that we need to keep from going off the rails (as was what happened at the previous site

.
