I find using a good stable power supply capable of delivering huge currents (ie, a car battery) is a sure fire way of finding wiring faults

Few other display types...

GID - panel has slighlty dropped in casing, hence the orange line at top. Another little job next time the dash is out of MV6  


CCRT700 and CCRT2008 MID - minus its outer casing. Notice only the centre of the 3 backlight bulbs are working, hence the darkness towards edges


TID - loads of duff pixels in this one. Again, only 1 of the 2 backlight bulbs working


Another MID I found in garage - notice how the pixels disappear in lines, common failure on these early ones...  Note again it has a failed backlight bulb (easy to change but means dash out)

Oh does it have it the yellow and black connectors and would it be for sale by any chance ?

NO! That's mine ;-)

If yours has missing lines of pixels, and you aint scared if using a soldering iron, then have a go repairing it. You don't need to be good at soldering either as you only need to de-solder/ re-solder the three mettal button contacts to gain access inside the case.

It's a different display, but the principle is the same. I did it on mine but was a bit heavy handed while re-assembling it and cracked a corner off of the LCD glass. I reckon it would have worked too because the parts of the screen that still work, work perfectly.

If yours has missing lines of pixels, and you aint scared if using a soldering iron, then have a go repairing it. You don't need to be good at soldering either as you only need to de-solder/ re-solder the three mettal button contacts to gain access inside the case.

that will be good - very rarely fail. hence nobody wants them, hence worthless.  I have a couple of grey ones here, oddly both faulty

"My Naff Code Reader" can probably do  this, if the original radio is fitted (I think)

Done it successfully on other cars, but not an omega, as havent tried one without the original stereo

its a mid function, not radio function, so radio will be irrelevent

Had wondered about that, but my tests have been  :

Vectra B - Standard Audio - Mid Test successful
2 x Omega B - Non Standard Audio - Cannot talk to Mid

is the daft thing talking on the right pin (you'll have to check against Haynes/TIS (depending on age)). Can it talk to other stuff on same Pin?  Omega splits diags over 4 pins, unlike most cars...

 May i tentatively enquire re cid bad pixels? I have two bad ones, depending on the colour displayed, on one line. No biggy, just wondered what you thought, whats involved? Or is it just bad luck with the manufacturing process?
