Perhaps it's because graphic examples of gratuitous violence is so readily available on the TV, cinema, video games & the parents have been brought up to think that such behaviour is normal?
In my day it was Champion the Wonder Horse, Range Rider, Wells Fargo etc. just innocent shooting of the ones in the black hats & of course the native indians (nobody told them what a lousy immigration policy they had!)
I understand where you are coming from, but don't fully agree. In your / our days it was generally Mum at home Dad at work, spanking and slippering if we were naughty, a clip from a police officer and if you got into trouble at school you did not tell your parents because you got into trouble again.
Now, many of these children have a Mother, 2nd or 3rd generation on benefits, who exercise little or no control, has no interest in where their children are as long as they are out of their hair. There will be no positive Male role model let alone a Dad at home, siblings likely to have different fathers.
I know this is a generalisation, but let's just see what comes to light about their backgrounds.
Something has gone wrong somewhere
