British Leyland 1750

.......was spotted today in Ashford being driven by an old girl, bless her. ;) ;)

It was an 'S' reg., the 1977 variety, with the Leyland Badge so had ceased to be called the Austin Maxi officially. 8-) 8-) 8-)  Talk about a blast from the past, and to think many raved over it! ::) ::) ;) ;)

This one showed no rust ( :o :o :o :o) and its air / / hydro elastic suspension  (that is what they had didn't they??) looked ok, but the bumpers had been bumped a few times! :P :P  Even so a good example of a car that should have rotted away years ago. :D :D

Whilst on cars around Ashford, there has been a sudden influx of Omega's, with five different ones recently seen (LSG's and mines excluded!) including a nice looking grey facelift 2.5 CDX parked outside my flats. ;) ;)   They are coming to the right place for some more OOF members...........anyone on here own any of those around Ashford, Kent? :-? :-?

My dad used to have a Maxi 1750. ::)

I bet his isn't still roadworthy. It was touch and go when he sold it in 1980 IIRC.  ;D

I have seen one running around here recently in reasonable nick. :o

Around our way we have blue Marina in daily use. Seem to see it most working days being driven. Looks very old hat now, but it is still going.

I remember them well Ms Zoom, very much maligned.  Don't forget about it's big brother the Austin/Morris 1800/2200 landcrab.  They were great cars - especially the 2200.

I drove one of the first to be armoured and indeed one of the first general issue armoured saloon vehicles.  They were pigs to drive and I still remember the polite warning painted on the drivers sunvisor suggesting that a speed of 45 mph should not be exceeded!  :o :-X

Aah happy days :) :) :) :y

Some years back, I quite liked the look of a locally-owned 1750HL, in a pale mauve colour.
The colour's official name was 'mirage' - well, I liked it anyway!

The were bog standard Ms Zoom and I mean everything, including brakes.  From what I recall power steering only came on stream with the 2200 but don't quote me :y :y  They were indeed heavy, soo, soo, heavy ;D ;D

My 1 st ever car i has a Austin Maxi 1500 on a G plate ,it had cable gearbox and a big hole in passenger side floor pan ,swapped it with a guy who wanted me old yamaha DT 175 which he wanted for his son as a field bike . Then 2-3 years later brought me dads 1750 of him for £500 or so ,a brillaint car for taking all me fishing gear in and a fumble in the backseat with a young lady  ;) ;) ;)but not with fishing gear in the back at same time  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Seen the V-reg silver facelift yet CDX, thats a nice one too. I think you may live near me Lizzie, if your flats are the one's I'm thinking of.
