As MDTM says, you cannot skim this head.  If you have head damage (either caused by hgf or cracking of the head) a replacement head must be sought...

He is taking the head to a place who pressure tests em, so will find out if its ok or not that way.

Has anyone taken the camshaft of one of these?

Did you use the 'special tool' as described in the manual or just undone the bearing caps progressively and carefully?

only of the head I didn't want.  Just undid them, no issues, but then its never going back together as its slowly going to landfill

Right, he has just got it back from the engineers....

It held pressure, but was slightly warped, so they skimmed it without his consent!

They said it was ok on this one as there are 2 types of 2.5 TD...
This one has recessed swirl pots, and was therefore ok to skim.  :-/

Reassembly time now, and he is really hoping for the best.

might need to adjust hg to bring compression ratio back to what it should be

Yes, you and Mark both said, the manual says.....but it does seem skimmable form what he said.

Were your swirl pots recessed or sticky out?

Thy sit almost flush....trouble is skimming reduces the amount of metal holding thm in and these are prone to cracking at the best of times!

The other issue is the increase in compression ratio!

Have seen something about 2 different thinknesses of HG

Guess its hope for the best time, and hope they havent taken much off!

Back to the original issue of blowing a hole in the rad tank, so you think this could cause it?  I would have thought a hose, or most likely the header cap would go 1st?

Depends if the rad was on its way out.

Orig rad on mine looks like its had a repair (they are expensive). Still in garage if he wants it, but not really postable.

Mine normally did the cap. Got through loads of them.  Also did a bodged bolt closing off extra outlet when I used a v6 bottle once :o

Got me thinking, is the rad easily accessible?  If so any chance of the measurements, if they are the same.....they are on TC ;)
