Car Insurance - well I didn't know that.
« on: 14 June 2009, 06:15:28 »

If you own two cars, you can't have your no-claims bonus on both cars, only one of them.

Also, you can't have the same named driver on both cars, again only on one of them.

When I was looking for a multi car policy last year they all promiced to mirror the NCD and everything else.  When it came to setting up the policy they could'nt do it.

Admirals Multi car policy gave good discounts on the second car that nearly equaled the NCD but this year I actually had to mention that I thought I quailified for 1 Years NCD and finnally got it.  Am hopeing that the 2nd car eventually becomes so cheap to insure that I get a really cheap car to insure as the main run about and the Elite become really cheap as a 2nd car.

I am the only driver so I dont know about naming a 2d driver, but the same as above, if there was a 2nd driver then it would be on the cheap as chips car to insure. (the runabout)

that doesn't sound right m8 - i'd check - as far as i know you can name whoever you want as a driver - imagine you owned 20 cars(not realistic - but follow my logic here) and wanted your wife to be able to drive them - you'd have to phone up the insurance every time she jumped in a different car?!!

in fact - you can even state that any driver over 25 can drive car fully comp so someones telling you porkies  :-/

No, it's a fact, my wife's insurance is with a different company to mine, checked with both companies, and that's the way they operate, regarding named drivers.

Yep, I knew that.....however if the insurance comp wont give you discount equating to your no claims bonus on the 2nd car.....find one that will  :y

The no claims bonus works independantly on each car, the advantage being, if you have a claim on one car, it doesnt affect the no claims discount on the other  :)

Each car does have its own NCD. As do bikes etc.  I have full NCD on 2 cars and 1 bike, all of which have had to be earned.

As for named drivers, never had an issue  :-/

WRT NCD after a prang, true only that one policy will have NCD hit, but all policies will be mullered as you have to declare the accident to all policies...

I took out Admiral's multi-car out to cover my Omega, my Astra shed & SWMBO's Astra. My wife is a named driver on both my Omega & Astra shed ...... not that she'll even try a car with 3 pedals anymore.  :-? She was a named driver on both cars before the multi-car policy with Admiral. :-/

it should only affect the NCD on one policy, you though have had an accident which will be declared for both policies and will affect the premium/risk of both.
That's how I understand it anyway.  ;)  ;)

That’s assuming I tell them or they work it out, there’s a couple more interesting situations if you have more than one vehicle (all legal). If you insure a second Car with another Insurance Co, and claim full NCD from the 1st Car which they will grant you with proof of NCD, their assuming that you going to cancel your first policy at some stage, which of course your not required to, which means your now running 2 policies for your 2 vehciles with full NCD with 2 Insurance Co.

The same can happen if you’re running Mirrored policies with the same Co, there’s nothing stopping you from transferring one of your vehicles to another Co. with your full NCD entitlement.

The only thing you must do is declare the correct number of vehicles within the House Hold or Business.  :y
