Firstly, the Admin Team have not decided exactly how this new section will work, we have more important things to deal with both on and off the forum.  My current priority is getting the shop fixed for example.

So the following is me speaking personally, not as an Admin.

Initially, a few select members would be given a new status of Recommended Supplier, which would enable them to start a single thread in that section, descibing services and capabilities. Any member would be able to respond to that thread with their experience of that service received. The Recommended Seller would not be able to add to his post or reply to queries, and members would only be allowed to post their experiences. This is to stop stealth bumping.  Recommended Sellers not living up to our very high expectations would have that status revoked, and their thread in that section nuked.

The criteria as to who gets the Recommended Seller status would have to be defined (though not necessarily published). It would certainly be based on satisfaction levels, but also things like what they can do extra for OOF members, be it discounts or better capabilities than available elsewhere, or both ;).  This is bound to be controversial decisions, and some sellers may get upset.  Those that are given the status, then have it removed due to apparently not meeting our high expectations, I guess they are going to end up being pretty upset.

Whilst I feel it will be incredibly useful to members, this whole section is likely to be a headache for the Mods covering it, which is why I certainly haven't been in any hurry to get it up and running, and ultimately, it may get nuked.

That definition of the section does sound a minefield!

Found one of the disclaimers on the Maintence Guide Section:

"None of these guides are endorsed by the owners or administrators of this forum. You follow any of these guides at your own risk".

 ;) ;)

....I would see that as protecting the forum administrators from any advice given leading to unforeseen circumstances but it may not cover the individual offering the advice :-/

....and those points highlighted, TB, would be the ones most wisely considered to be the stumbling block to any such proposals :y

.........and thus Zulu would make it very likely that this section will be "nuked" as TB suggests. ;)

but as it would be of immense use to the membership here, its something that needs further consideration.

Based purely on the hassles and overheads, we should have nuked the For Sale sections ages ago ;)

....that's the catch 22 TB,  I suppose a lot of us are unaware of the practical difficulties to be considered when discussing such a facility, but I suppose it falls upon someone to bite the bullet if the desire is to become reality.

An additional section to an already very useful and practical forum is always appealing, providing it doesn't place additional burdens on those administering it :y

I would certainly thank you and the other administrators for all you do to make this work so well. :y :y

good brief..

I agree your style of approach.. :y

Commercial subjects where money and firm or personal names are on the net, it must be handled very carefully..  And actually if any problem arises the admins will be toast in the problem.. :-/

However I see some new members finding some ways to advertise which causes another problem.. :-/

Personal opinion - major headache and should be removed entirely.

my initial thought is that I don't think I'd want to be on the list for various reasons - let alone have responsibility to maintain it!
